The annual “VH1 Divas” special typically serves as a tribute to some of the greatest female voices and personalities ever to commit music to tape. Living legends like Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Cher, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Nancy Wilson kicked off the set with a nimble solo that scored excited cheers from the soldiers. Rocking a chunky statement necklace, black tank top and skinny trousers, the songstress drew hoots from the crowd throughout the catchy chorus. She finished off the look with a puffy trapezoidal white wig with pink tips and a large beaded necklace. VH1 assembled an impressive array of performers to throw some love in the direction of our brave men and women in uniform. “You guys are so beautiful. I just want to say thank you so much because if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, we could not be here and have the freedom to do what we do,” she said. Potter formed her band while at St. Lawrence College in Vermont, and they parlayed their reputation as a killer live act into a record deal. Perry also got patriotic with a tube top emblazoned with the American flag paired with sparkly hot pants. Continuing a long tradition of ladies who have graced the stage in front of our nation’s heroes, Katy and Nicki came together in a patriotic showing.
She joined Katy Perry and Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles for a rousing, retro opening number, and teamed up with Nettles once again for a rendition of soul great Aretha Franklin’s 1968 anthem “Think.” The songbird later broke down her “Divas” experience to reporters, and said participating in the event was “incredible.” “I’m in great company with past Divas, and not only is it about me being here, it’s also about what we’re doing here, supporting the troops. The playful vibe of the track seemed to offer some relief to the hard working soldiers who were present. Supermodel Marisa Miller was suitably dressed for the occasion in an olive drab jumpsuit nipped at the waist with a wide belt, a look she softened with a wavy retro hairstyle. Perry has come back in a major way with her latest single, and has become one of the most recognizable pop divas of the year. What did you think of Heart and Grace Potter & The Nocturnal’s performances at “VH1 Divas”? “Miss Aretha Franklin, get well soon,” Nettles declared. With her show-stopping performance on “VH1 Divas Salute the Troops,” Potter has certainly picked up a handful of new fans, and as long as she continues to craft smashes like “Paris (Ooh La La),” she’ll be holding onto those fans for years to come.

It was closed for four days last year while the scene was filmed. Now, for one night only on 10 December, visitors can walk through its dark corridors. Merseytravel donated a £20,000 payment from Warner Brothers to charity Claire House hospice after filming. It’s the unofficial beginning of Oscar season, after all. Well, that will never happen. After last weekend’s huge opening 18.3 million pounds ($28.45 million), it took another 8.34 million, according to Screen International Tuesday.
With a worldwide total approaching 90 million US dollars (£57,646,302), there is no doubt that the family-friendly film will continue to do well with international audiences as it expands into more territories in the coming weeks. Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley and Ray Winstone came in at three with gangster movie “London Boulevard,” while pregnancy-themed road movie “Due Date” slipped two spots to four. Cher and Christina Aguilera will certainly be in contention with the second weekend of Sony’s “Burlesque,” which has performed well midweek and should maintain a solid footing with a gross in the $7 million to $10 million range. “The American,” with George Clooney as an assassin hiding out in Italy for one last hit, made its debut at five. The musical diva-fest “Burlesque” lagged behind the kid-friendly blockbusters, coming in third place. PopWatchers, will you be catching up on movies you missed during Thanksgiving? Family movie “Despicable Me” fell three places to sixth, just above the third part of Stieg Larsson’s trilogy of crime novels, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest” which could only manage seventh place on its opening week. The movie’s total estimated tally currently stands at $22.9 million. Anna Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal’s nudity-filled romantic drama “Love and Other Drugs” came in fourth place. Screenwriter Steve Kloves, an Oscar nominee for “Wonder Boys,” has adapted all but one of the books, a feat unprecedented in the annals of the Writers Guild, and he’s never been nominated for them.
The only wide release debuting this weekend will be Relativity Media’s action-fantasy “The Warrior’s Way,” featuring international superstar Dong-gun Jang. “Unstoppable” continues to cling to a top-five slot at the box office. All of these performers are, or have been, brilliant in roles that so easily could be over-played or phoned in or made ridiculous. As well as being able to walk out on to the roadway where the scenes were shot, visitors will be able to get a glimpse of the workings of the two-mile tunnel, through which 35,000 vehicles travel a day. It was released in cinemas last month and broke five UK box office records, according to Warner Bros.

Although “Tangled” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ have both already cleaned up at the box office, the two fantasy flicks continue to wrangle for the top spot in theaters. And on Friday, the battle belonged to “Tangled,” Disney’s animated update of the classic kid’s tale. Look for a battle of the family movies this weekend as audiences snack on box office leftovers during what is traditionally one of the lesser performing periods of the year. The family film’s hefty haul now stands at about $80 million since sliding into theaters over the Thanksgiving weekend. Well, that will never happen. Rowling, racked up another huge take over the weekend to consolidate its position at the top of the British box office. So Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″ in its third weekend and Disney’s “Tangled” in its second will find themselves fighting for the top slot with grosses in the mid to high $20 million range. Six films and no Oscars . I’m working on how to relax – I’m working on my greenhouse. Anna Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal’s nudity-filled romantic drama “Love and Other Drugs” came in fourth place.
“The American,” with George Clooney as an assassin hiding out in Italy for one last hit, made its debut at five. “Unstoppable” continues to cling to a top-five slot at the box office. Has all the buzz and counter-buzz on Burlesque intrigued you or scared you away?
Tell us what you’ll be seeing in the poll, and if you feel like it, tell us why in the comments! That’s right, none of the actors in six of the most popular films of all time has been nominated for an Oscar for their “Potter” roles. No doubt some academy members regret not nominating Harris for his final role before his death, but Gambon has been consistently passed over too. Granted, none of the adults have a lot of screen time, but if Judi Dench can win supporting actress for uttering five lines and wearing an enormous side-bustle as Queen Elizabeth in “Shakespeare in Love,” then Gambon’s death scene, Broadbent’s combination of hubris and shame, or Rickman’s pained fury deserve at least a nomination. The train thriller trailed “Drugs” closely with $1.9 million, a figure which nudges its total haul to about $65 million. Walt Disney’s new 3D animated comedy Tangled put up quite a fight for the top spot and came close to unseating the boy wizard, ending up with a terrific five-day second place opening in the process. That’s a 66 percent drop from the fantasy film’s opening last Friday, which was inflated due to an enormous turnout at Thursday midnight screenings. That would bring Deathly Hallows ‘ 10-day tally to $220 million, making it the 10th greatest 10-day gross in box-office history and the best ever for a Potter flick.
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 1″ continues to ward away any significant challengers at the box office. Well box-office fans, the war has been declared as Harry Potter and his wizarding folk are taking on Disney’s latest princess. The beginning of the end of the boy wizard’s on-screen odyssey took in an estimated $20.8 million in theaters in North America as its eight-day total crossed the $190 million mark.
While it may seem unfair, the princess is holding her ground as the two head into the Friday after Thanksgiving in a close race for the three-day box-office weekend.
Rounding out the top five over Thanksgiving weekend were “Megamind 3D” ($19.7 million), along with “Unstoppable” and “Burlesque” – which both were headed towards $17 million takes. The 3D, PG movie was right on Harry ‘s heals, attracting $19.7 million in 3,603 theaters on its third day of release, while its three-day figure rose to nearly $40 million.
“The last movie is going to be really, really fast-paced,” said Daniel Radcliffe to Reuters, “and a load of action in it and it is like a war film. The Dwayne Johnson R-fated thriller “Faster” found another $3.2 million for a new take of $6.7 million. The CBS Films release is expected to hit $11 million for the long weekend.
The combined diva power of Cher and Christina Aguilera couldn’t raise their new, PG-13 rated Burlesque above fifth place. After that were this week’s three other new releases. Despite mediocre reviews, audiences liked the PG-13 film — CinemaScore moviegoers graded it an “A-.”. Either way it’s nice to see an excellent animated film hanging tough with one of the best movie franchises of all-time. Tangled deserved this kind of performance, it’s an excellent movie . And Faster , Dwayne Johnson’s return to the action genre, rounded out the top seven with $3.2 million. Mariah Carey’s Glitter managed $2.4 million, From Justin to Kelly opened with $2.7 million and Mandy Moore’s A Walk to Remember opened with $12.1 million.

As the nation feasted on leftovers Friday, it also scarfed up movies, with Warners’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 , once again at the top of the menu. The beginning of the end of the boy wizard’s on-screen odyssey took in an estimated $20.8 million in theaters in North America as its eight-day total crossed the $190 million mark. Thanksgiving weekend will offer a veritable feast of film choices for U.S. audiences, but the global juggernaut that is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″ will continue its box-office magic, earning a winning $80 million-plus for the five-day holiday period. A 10-day domestic total of well over $200 million is also in the cards for this next-to-the-last film in the eight-part Warner Bros. franchise. Family films definitely had the edge over action movies and romantic comedies as the holiday weekend’s other new releases opened in 4th, 6th, and 7th place. The actors possess their best chemistry yet (as well they should — they’ve practically shared each other’s Pablum), and the chemistry shows. The film version has been divided into two parts.
Cher and Christina Aguilera in Burlesque are currently behind Harry Potter , Tangled , and Unstoppable , holding down 4th place with $2.8 million and $2.5 million over Wednesday and Thursday. The movie – the first part of the franchise’s two-part finale – earned an impressive $27 million over the past two days alone and looks like a lock to finish at the No. 1 spot for a second consecutive weekend, Variety reported. As it began its fourth weekend, it held onto the third spot, collecting $5.4 million, as it crossed the $120 million mark. Love and Other Drug s is struggling to find an audience, placing 6th with $2.2 million and $1.9 million over the same time frame. “They are really good numbers,” says Paul Dergarabedian , box office analyst for Hollywood.com . Fox’s runaway train tale, Unstoppable , starring Denzel Washington , lived up to its title.
“To me the most striking thing is that a decade in, with six installments already released, there’s still this much interest in the franchise. It eased into the fourth spot, as it began its third weekend in theaters, as it pulled in $4.6 million, while its domestic gross rose to $53.6 million. “There was a really demanding, complicated special-effects requirement there to do the ice,” Craig said. “Faster” features action “go to” guy Dwayne Johnson and should earn around $16 million for the five-day period. The final installment is set to appear in July 2011, where it will own the month. And together with Helena Bonham Carter and, of course, slithering Alan Rickman, they begin the set in this film, which will lead up to the ultimate climax. “Burlesque” earned $5.8 million and ” Love and Other Drugs ” earned $4.2 million over Wednesday and Thursday. As such, a good deal of “Hallows” is unsettling and intense, more grounded and focused than any other film in the series.
You can catch it in Harkins IMAX, or with moving seats at UltraStar in Scottsdale. Since opening Wednesday, it’s collected just under $10 million.
Its three-day cume stands at just under $8 million.

Thinking we should have left earlier in my head, we settled for the row second from the screen. It is one half of the final book after all. For a few seconds, it brings to mind Peter Pan flying the Darling children to Neverland. But Harry, unlike Peter, is unselfish. However, there is plenty of good to cling to. He doesn’t want his loved ones sacrificed for him. Hermione’s telling of a wizarding fairy tale is performed in an excellent shadow play animation.

The Harry Potter audience is as huge as ever, and they really love their midnight shows. ” Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1″ opened to $125.1 million at the domestic box office and $205 million from nearly every major foreign market, according to an estimate from distributor Warner Bros. The box-office wizard has outdone himself. The seventh movie in the fantasy franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” opened with a fairy-tale figure of $125.1 million over the weekend. The Weekend’s Losers: To say that The Next Three Days flopped is to bury the lead here: Russell Crowe has flopped; nay, movie stars may have flopped, people: For the next film after Harry was DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind , with a little better than $16 million after a little less than three weeks; following it, Unstoppable , with $13.1 million in its second week. “Deathly Hallows” grossed $24 million domestically before the sun rose on opening day, compared with $6 million for “Goblet of Fire” and $22.2 million for summer 2009′s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” which launched on a Wednesday. “Deathly Hallows” launched its weekend spell late Thursday night when 3,700 theaters screened the PG-13 fantasy movie at midnight. Due Date , in its third week, with $9.1 million. After Friday morning, ticket sales for the new “Potter” movie were nearly identical to the 2005 entry, actually representing a decline in attendance when accounting for higher ticket prices and because significantly more people saw “Deathly Hallows’ on premium-priced Imax screens. The answer is self-evident, thanks to its outdoor campaign: “Nowhere is safe.” Quite literally, one could not turn on a television, a radio, a computer, open a magazine or look out a car window without seeing Harry .
“Unstoppable” arrived in third place. The studio is understood to have spent roughly $150 million just on marketing the movie. Really, the question of who goes is not as interesting as the question of: Who doesn’t? The six previous Potter movies have already earned Warner more than $1 billion in profits, and the last two are poised to add hundreds of millions more to the coffers, despite their hefty costs. The studio reversed an earlier decision to go 3D with Part 1 due to insufficient time for a quality conversion from 2D. “Potter” movies have recently cost about $250 million to produce and an additional $150 million-plus for prints and advertising. The comedic pairing of Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. netted about $9.2 million, which bumps this film’s total gross to around $72 million. Opening audiences for Hallows: Part 1 skewed 57% female, with 51% of patrons under age 25. With a “B+” rating from CinemaScore audiences, Lionsgate is hoping the picture will benefit from good word-of-mouth during the Thanksgiving holiday. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 , $125.1 million 2. That’s a new high for Imax on a single weekend.
Among returning pictures, the low-budget science-fiction film “Skyline” took a tumble, dropping 71% on its second weekend to $3.4 million.

He’s back again flying high lower down the home stretch on the foreign theatrical circuit, but handily claiming the No. 1 box office perch. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I , the seventh installment of the most successful movie franchise in history, grossed $205 million over five days at some 19,000 screens, covering 54 countries comprising 91 markets. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – British boy wizard Harry Potter made movie magic again at weekend box offices as the newest chapter, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” cast a spell in more than 50 countries and collected $330 million in global ticket sales. The debut met most analysts’ projections, which were sky high for the most successful franchise on record, having conjured more than $5.2 billion worldwide.. That tally includes a best-ever U.S. and Canadian debut of $125.1 million in this latest adventure of the teenage sorcerer and his friends at Hogwarts school. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ also added $205 million in 54 overseas countries, bringing the film’s worldwide total to $330.1 million. Six previous “Potter” films collected $5.4 billion globally for the Warner Bros studio. In the United States and Canada, last week’s champ, comedy “Megamind,” came in a distant second with $16.2 million, just ahead of runaway train flick “Unstoppable” with $13.1 million. “Deathly Hallows” and those two earlier movies each sold around 16 million tickets in their first weekend. So far, the best of the franchise titles is Harry Potter and the Sorcerers’s Stone . The new Potter flick also registered the sixth largest opening weekend of all time, landing just behind this year’s Iron Man 2 , which debuted to $128.1 million in May.
While rising ticket prices helped propel Potter to its record weekend, the movie got a boost from critics, 79% of whom recommended the movie, according to the aggregate site RottenTomatoes.com. The 2001 original realized global box office of $975 million of which $657 million came from abroad. But the biggest push came from 18- to 24-year olds, a group that once seemed indifferent to the film adaptations of J.K. It is the best opening weekend in the US for the film series’ history. “Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ rode up the box office charts to land at No. 6 on the list of all-time best weekend debuts, just behind the $128.1 million from “Iron Man 2″ earlier this year. The major difference came from Thursday’s midnight shows, when the new film raked in $24 million, compared with $6 million for “Goblet of Fire.” That accounted for $18 million of the $22-million advantage for this year’s picture. No. 2, for example, was Sony and other distributors’ sci-fi-action vehicle Resident Evil: Afterlife , which opened at 3,090 screens in China for an estimated $9.4 million, raising its total offshore gross take to $228.8 million. Rowling, collected more than $30,000 per theater in just over 4,100 U.S. and Canadian venues. Today, those same kids are driving to the midnight shows themselves,” said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros. It also shows the changing demographics of the Potter audience, as more fans are now old enough to see the movie late at night rather than in a matinee. The runaway train action saga, which barely finished No. 1 in its opening weekend, has rolled up an offshore cume of $32 million thus far.
The weekend’s other new wide release, the break-my-wife-out-of-prison thriller The Next Three Days , could have used a charm or two. The movie played in some 54 overseas countries with highlights being 17.5 million pounds ($28 million) in the United Kingdom and A$15 million ($14 million) in Australia. Distribution’s The Man Who Wanted To Live His Life , $7.5 million over three rounds in France only; Fox’s Knight and Day , $185.2 million; Sony’s Easy A , $12.2 million; EuroCorp. Distribution’s Arthur 3: The War of Two Worlds , $24.4 million over six frames in France only; Sony’s The Other Guys , $48.4 million; Studio Canal’s The Pricess of Montpensier , $4.7 million in three stanzas in France only; and Universal’s Senna , $2.3 million from Japan and Brazil only.

And Naperville was there to welcome him. Many in attendance had pre-purchased their tickets weeks ago and started arriving at the south Naperville cinema as early as 6 p.m.
But more recently in popular culture, and especially in the movies, it’s come to mean deep, serious, mature, dangerous and altogether more truthful, more worthy of intelligent consideration than anything categorised as “light” and thus frivolous and deceptive. Once this plotline is completed, the entire epic saga of the Boy Who Lived will be over. Take a look at some pics of the stars throughout the years, and even some video for a crazy comparison! “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” premiered nationwide yesterday to sold-out theaters as “Potter Heads” of all ages flocked to see the newest film. The girls opted for comfort over costumes, wearing pajamas to the late show. “It’s just so much fun, you’re the first ones to see this movie, and you get to stay up late,” said Rudolph. “We will just have to survive on three hours of sleep.” But not everyone in attendance was a die-hard fan. With a new film coming out every other year for the most part, it’s easy to forget that the stars of the films were just children when it all began almost 10 years ago! The film’s haul now stands at around $33 million as the thriller kicks off its second weekend on screens. Batman sequel “The Dark Knight” stands as the best opening ever after bowing with $158.4 million in July 2008. The movie’s total estimated haul is skyrocketing toward $100 million, with $97 million picked up since its debut in early November.
After this, Harry, Hermione and Ron are on their own working out how to find the Arthurian sword (predictably lying at the bottom of a frozen lake) that will enable them to vanquish the Horcruxes, Voldemort’s airborne cohorts. Audiences handed over $2.9 million Friday to check out the odd couple’s journey to deliver Downey’s character in time for the birth of his child. Most of the time, the kids are in the wilderness, a dark, wintry place either on the Pembrokeshire coast or in the Highlands. We have watched Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) grow from a scrawny boy to a (dare I say buff!) young man. “The Next Three Days” opened in fifth place on Friday. Over the past ten years, you have either come to love or hate the actors that portray characters as influential as Frodo Baggins. They kind of have to, seeing as how for half of the film, they carry it. Christin Tang, 16, admitted to joining her classmates for the release, even though she is not as Potter-crazed as they are. “I am not really into Harry Potter, but I wanted to go with my friends,” said Tang. “But rumor has it the movies are pretty good,” she laughed. Neuqua Valley High School student Ally Grevenites said the atmosphere at a Potter release is fun and friendly. “I think the midnight show is fun because everyone joins together,” said the 15-year-old. “Harry Potter is one thing everyone here has in common, and it makes you comfortable with all these people.” Although the movie poster reads “It all ends here” — that’s not the case.

Harry Potter is one popular bespectacled teenager. If the estimate holds, Deathly Hallows will come away with the fifth best opening day ever, behind only the last two Twilight movies, The Dark Knight , and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen . The Friday figure, which includes $24 million earned from Thursday midnight showings , also represents the single highest grossing day ever for the franchise, topping Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ‘s $58.2 million debut from last year. “Deathly Hallows” may shock rabid Hogwarts fans, because sex has become part of the equation in the Harry Potter plot.

There’s no better expert out there than Melissa to take a step back and reflect on the series that has changed so many lives, so now we’ll turn it over to her: This summer, when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II debuts in theaters, it will be about four years – almost to the day – that we first cracked the spine of the book. I and about 2500 of my fellows will be in Florida at LeakyCon 2011, the conference we’re throwing in celebration, watching and hugging and crying together as we experience yet another ending in the roller coaster experience that calls itself the Harry Potter phenomenon. They don’t happen the way you expect them to, and sometimes don’t happen at all. “These books carry great power in them,” said Andrew Slack, executive director and co-founder of the Alliance.
With little time for preparation and no clue what to do next, Harry, Ron and Hermione are forced into hiding. To start off, calling the Harry Potter series the most financially successful franchise isn’t entirely accurate; its cumulative gross was not adjusted for inflation. (When you do adjust, Star Wars comes out on top.) And money isn’t everything-—many would argue that a film’s critical reception is equally important to its financial success. And lots of other fine qualities. What are the best reviewed franchises in history? It’s hard to overestimate how impossible this question is to answer. The Alliance hosted “Lumos” parties around the world for the film’s release. But it suffers, as does every Harry Potter film to come after “Prisoner of Azkaban” from filmmaker arrogance and perhaps ignorance. When I am not in class I am working on videos or just being ridiculously geeky. There are certain issues with this film that are so wrong that they must issue from screenwriter Steven Kloves and director David Yates either thinking they are smarter than the books’ author, J.K. Clearly, determining The Greatest franchise of all time isn’t as simple as it may first appear. But first, a few gold stars on their foreheads: Many of the visuals are stunning and impressively created.
“The Harry Potter Alliance is sort of bringing a new kind of activism into the world,” said Paul DeGeorge, a co-founder of the group and one half of the punk rock band, Harry & the Potters.
We then found the average for each franchise’s films . Then we ordered the series from highest to lowest average gross, then best to worst critics score, and averaged the two rankings. Imelda Staunton, as Dolores Umbridge, has a scene in this where she is completely hateful no humor about it, as seen in “The Order of the Phoenix.” Helena Bonham Carter is beautiful but completely nuts and scary as Bellatrix Lestrange. It is real horror that underlines, again, that this is no story for little children.
Release one and it clones itself into several, and they are hilarious. We’ve learned that what we built from the mid-1990s to now is far too strong not to outlast the thrashing of time. So, as the next “ending” comes for Harry Potter fans, we who know better will view it as it should be seen: a time for us to be grateful at what we have shared, grateful we have each other, and celebratory of what The Boy Who Lived has given to all of our lives.

And college students, in general, know how to have fun. Especially the smart ones most of the collegians I met that night were from Stanford. One doesn’t really review a Harry Potter film. The seventh film in the boy-wizard franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ conjured up $24 million domestically from early Friday morning (November 19) screenings, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com . There were also dozens of rounded black eyeglasses and scores of black lightning bolts scrawled on foreheads to emulate Harry Potter’s spectacles and famous scar, received when he was just a year old.
I couldn’t wait to see if my imagination would be met when the films were released. Director Christopher Nolan recently announced that “The Dark Knight Rises,” the next Batman movie, also will not be a 3-D release. And “Cowboys & Aliens” – the Western-meets- sci-fi action flick that generated buzz this week thanks to the release of its first trailer – also will avoid the in-your-face approach when it hit theaters next summer. I don’t know what that was about, and couldn’t grab one of them to ask they kept flitting about, as fairies are wont to do. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never read a Harry Potter book in your life, chances are you know what a muggle is and how the game of quidditch is played.
A large group of other college-age fans filled the floor between the seats and the big screen while they waited, playing a game called “Karate,” something like statuary tag if your hand is touched, that hand is out of play. Many in attendance had pre-purchased their tickets weeks ago and started arriving at the south Naperville cinema as early as 6 p.m. So will “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ eventually beat out the franchise-topping $317 million domestic gross of the first film in the series, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone”? An hour before the scheduled release, fans were seated in eight of the 16 theaters, and additional showings were scheduled for 3:15 a.m. I hadn’t been to Century Cinemas 16 for a while, and found it to still have its usual foibles and charms, as it always had when I was a regular there. Getting in the way only gets you trampled, for no apparent gain. So what is there to say about the second-to-last film in the series? Of course, any records “Part 1″ does set will likely be broken when “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2″ hits theaters in July.
Better to note the loveliness of the epic animal and the visceral feel of the earth shaking under your feet as she rumbles by.
In the lobby, lots of happy faces most people seemed to really like the new Harry Potter movie, and were excited about seeing “Part 2,” which comes out on July 15. Also, both women’s restrooms were open.

The document has moved here . ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part I’ opens this weekend and Ann Hornaday reviewed the highly anticipated film : As the first part of the last movie in a 10-year franchise that has taken on almost theological meaning for a generation of readers and filmgoers, it’s meant to leave audiences wanting more. The seventh film in the boy-wizard franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ conjured up $24 million domestically from early Friday morning (November 19) screenings, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com . In that sense, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is good. Quite good, in fact, possibly even great. While “Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ didn’t exactly suck the life out of its vampire competition in the midnight-screenings department, the film is well on its way to a magical box-office run. We’re not sure, but we think it’s a documentary about watching “The Next Three Days.” “Heartless”: Jim Sturgess leads the cast of the U.K.-made psychological thriller. Most were waiting to get tickets for shows later that day rather than hoping to get into the first showing at 12:30 p.m.

If you see inappropriate language, e-mail us . The ” Harry Potter ” films aren’t exactly known for their fashion flair, but we’ve definitely seen a progression of smart dressing choices over the course of the years. Whether Crowe’s (and Elizabeth Banks’) magic can compare with “Potter’s” remains to be seen, but here’s what else is new and interesting this weekend: “Made In Dagenham”: Sally Hawkins (“Happy-Go-Lucky”) stars in a period drama about female sewing mechanists striking for their rights.
In honor of just how far we’ve come since “Sorcerer’s Stone,” we’ve decided to take a look back at the best and worst fashion choices of the past seven films. Which is why this seventh film in the series (Part 2 will be released next summer) is a drag: Too little happens – and then when it does kick into gear, it stops: “To be continued.” As for the story, well, why bother trying to explain it at this point? Unsurprisingly, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger is on the “best” list a lot. With its gray palette and elegiac tone, this penultimate offering is just right for what it is: the beginning of the end.
We’re not sure, but we think it’s a documentary about watching “The Next Three Days.” “Heartless”: Jim Sturgess leads the cast of the U.K.-made psychological thriller.
It would be like trying to explain “Lost” to someone who missed the first two seasons and wants to start with the third. Suffice to say that, after six films, the evil Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) has reconstituted himself and his evil cohort and taken control of the magic world. But is the title a Kanye reference? Not only did it prove to the world that Emma is much more gorgeous than we had realized before, we also got to see the first stirrings of love between Hermione and Ron. Neither of us were looking forward to it.” Grint does, however, acknowledge that may seem a bit unbelievable to most fans. If you haven’t been keeping up, that’s about as succinct as it gets.
Don’t worry. “HP7,” as the posters have it, eventually finds something to do with itself and builds to exciting encounters and face-offs. Best: “Order of the Phoenix” Quidditch outfits Compared to the brightly colored Quidditch robes from the previous “Potter” films, the rugged, leather-padded robes in “Order of the Phoenix” were a welcome change.
Worst: “Sorcerer’s Stone” wizard robes Yes, they were close to the robes described in the book, but the wizard robes in “Sorcerer’s Stone” (and “Chamber of Secrets,” for that matter) are so darn boring . Yes, they’re adequate for an 11-year-old wizard, but we’re glad that the costume designers quickly left these robes on the dressing room floor.
“Naturally these films are getting darker as we are growing up and the environment changes. Best: Dumbledore’s Army “Order of the Phoenix” was definitely the film of good fashion decisions.

“Awkward,” “creepy,” “disturbing.” Those were among the words “Harry Potter” fans used to describe the rather unexpected and altogether hallucinatory kiss between Harry and Hermione in “Deathly Hallows.” Streaming out of a midnight screening with lightning-bolt scars drawn on their foreheads and clutching wands, “Potter”-ites were still reeling from that onscreen smooch. “They’re totally topless and it’s really creepy,” Emma Larson told MTV News. The clock is at zero. MTV asked them to say a number of hilarious “American” words and phrases, such as Glenn Beck , Olive Garden, Boo-Yah and ” Justin Bieber is the man” without their clip. “It was only the day before that they said, ‘Oh, by the way, we hope it’s all right, but we want you to be topless , and we’re going to cover you in silver paint,’ ” the actress told us earlier this week. “Hey buddy, can I get an order or mozzarella sticks, please?” asks Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy . “This is like an audition!” Radcliffe shudders at one. Herewith eight of our suggestions for how WB might keep the franchise alive.
“This is controversial!” he says, before relenting: “Twilight blows.”
How is it as an adaptation of the final book? But for some, the kiss was a chance to see, at long last, Harry and Hermione together, at least for a few seconds.
Warner Brothers, like CNN, is owned by Time Warner. “Harry’s eyes in the movie are blue and … in the books they’re green,” she said. “This is a huge thing to a lot of the fans because they’re just so invested.” Spoiler alert: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″ has an already well-publicized additional scene, featuring Harry Potter and Hermione Granger slow-dancing a nod to fans who have long wondered if the two should be more than friends. Radcliffe told EW shooting that sequence challenged him because there were extras on set at the time, many of them so happy to be there portraying Hogwarts students they treated it like a party. “When you get to ‘The Deathly Hallows,’ you’ve really kind of shot yourself in the foot if you don’t have enough of that, because it’s a major plot development,” said Cleolinda Jones, a blogger and author of “Movies in Fifteen Minutes.” Harry Potter fans are not alone in their angst. Other fantasy book series have become popular movie series, including “Lord of the Rings,” “Twilight,” and “The Chronicles of Narnia.” Fans of those movies and books wrestle with the same kinds of frustrations. “That was pretty intense,” said Hillary Brens. “I think a lot of fans wanting that relationship to happen — they finally got it.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.

The three main “Harry Potter” stars — Daniel Radcliffe , Rupert Grint — have all grown up since we first laid eyes on them in “The Sorcerer’s Stone.” But even more amazing is a look back at the massive endeavor the cast, crew and studio undertook, bringing one of the world’s most popular book series to life and doing so with the same actors over eight films. When MTV News caught up with the lovely Emma Watson as she promoted “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” we asked if she feels a sense of completion, having fulfilled the role of Hermione from beginning to end. “I think ‘Part 2′ will be completion,” she said. The actor, who is about to star in the final two Potter films, says it was now “kind of time” for him to be “released in the wild” with the end of the franchise. “I feel very proud of this movie, which is really nice. The whole business of Voldemort is, obviously, pretty scary – and there are a couple of scenes where his snake Nagini appears which had all of us watching through our fingers. “Do I like it all being about me? Tonight’s 7 p.m. showing at the Carmike 16 at the Jacksonville Mall is already sold out, according to Fandango.
The focal point of all that angst is Harry’s longtime sidekick, Ron Weasley . She is, in her husband’s description, addicted to the story of Harry Potter. “It is so beyond any child or adult’s imagination,” Six said. “It’s nothing like everyday life … and you picture yourself becoming part of their world.” On Thursday, the day before part one of the film version of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” was released, Six made a feast of Harry Potter treats at her home, as she has done with the release of every movie in the series. “Deathly Hallows” is the final installment of the book. Though if your children are the kind who carry their film-going into their nightmares then you might want to make a different decision. I was just the one that looked the most like Harry when they were auditioning people.” Emma Watson admitted that, like her character Hermione, she had bossed around Daniel and Rupert Grint on set. Sutton says it’s an event for “serious” Potter fans. Part two of the film adaptation is due out in July. It’s kind of like a road movie — without the car. She said: “Oh, all the time, all the time!
If your children have survived that, then The Deathly Hallows is a relatively safe choice for you. She also served butter beer (a delicious concoction of ginger ale, butterscotch syrup and butter) and Pumpkin Juice. The manager of the theater said he wasn’t expecting to sell 1,800 tickets because it premiered on a week night. “I’d have to catch myself, because I’m like, that really isn’t my job. Mamie Knight attended the premier dressed as Harry Potter’s pet own Hedwig. I don’t know whether it would be fun.” Rupert told the Q&A session that his character Ron Weasley and his own personality had “merged into the same person over the years”. One friend entered her fully decorated home, looked around, and said, “Nerrrrrrd!” Six laughed, straightening her Harry Potter glasses.
“For years, Ron has been chronically jealous of Harry. who’s famous, rich and glamorous, with all the girls crazy about him,” said Bassham. “The story started with us, and I think it’s right that it should end with us,” she said.
