Three decades later Disney has gone back to the electronic drawing board and returned with “Tron: Legacy,” a sequel with far less color and cinematic imagination, and many more bells and whistles, including a freakishly special-effected Mr. Bridges going mano a mano in cyberspace with the grizzled real deal. But it does offer the sight of the actor returning to the same kind of paycheck-padding gig that landed him in the first “Tron,” if without a young man’s embarrassment. The new movie takes off in 1989 with Kevin (Mr. Bridges, kind of) seen tucking his young son, Sam (Owen Best), into bed, the child’s room adorned with the kind of “Tron” merchandise that is the sequel’s primary reason for being.
As if to emphasize the network connectivity of it all, the buildings, vehicles and costumes are outlined, usually in whitish-blue, an electronic piping that also emphasizes the geometry of the forms. In the action scenes these light ribbons turn into lovely streaks, but at other times, all the dark and the Daft Punk throbbing bring to mind a rave filled with revelers waving glow sticks.

Now that Billboard has officially released the EKG meter for pop music in 2010 (pretty much, if you’re not Doin’ It Real Big Up in the Club or a Mr. Lukasz Gottwald, you’re not selling records), one man’s career in that field is like a rare hothouse orchid of massive late-aughts single sales: Flo Rida.
Since his world-beating T-Pain collaboration “Low,” the Miami-based rapper has had one of pop’s best ears for absolutely inescapable club jams, a streak compounded by his download-record smashing “Right Round” (which introduced Ke$ha to the world) and recently with the David Guetta-produced “Club Can’t Handle Me.”
But he’s also a unique creature of singles success – a multiple-hit wonder and radio-festival staple who everyone knows of but who few seem to know as a personality. He’s a finely oiled machine of rapid, melodic rhymes that own your stereo every summer, but who’s still something of a mystery as a person.
“I want people to get to know me but not get overexposed,” he said in a panoramic suite atop the W in Hollywood. He’s trying to finally capitalize with the two-part “Only One Flo” double album. One half, released last month, is straight for the club, the other is a nod to more orthodox hip-hop. “I never want to let too many secrets out.”
Here’s one thing that’s a lost cause for keeping secret — “Club Can’t Handle Me” is one of the most era-encapsulating tracks of 2010. Guetta is behind scads of the year’s archetypal and successful singles, and “Club” is another hit of Europhile rave sugar. But instead of being about boozing, strippers or other perennial modern rap topics, it’s an oddly empowering and surprisingly little tune that “People are really taking as their own,” he said. “I’d seen (Guetta’s) following and really wanted to work in his universe, in the European club scene. Tight, melodic raps really fit with that style.” It’s one that “Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1)” and “Who Dat Girl” reprise ably.
That’s the secret that makes Mr. Rida so easy to love on radio and yet so hard to figure out as an artist. His ear for double-time, sing-songy hooks is unerring and can sit atop all sorts of productions, from four-on-the-floors to trunk-rattlers. But it also rarely leaves room for the kind of lyricism that fans have always responded to in a rapper, the kind of thing that makes you hang on the next line.
The relatively ominous and lonely “Respirator” and “Why You Up in Here,” the record’s closer with Ludacris and Gucci Mane, come closest to amending that, but the second installment (due in spring) should lean even heavier on the rap end of his pop-rap equation, as he explored in more depths on his second album, “R.O.O.T.S.” It might be validating; it passed his singles fans by. But the feeling one takes from the first edition of “Flo” is that of something interesting and particular to the last few years of pop — a well-known voice that’s outlapped its bearer in public personality.
Fortunately for Flo, he doesn’t object to being a “song” guy rather than a Kanye-esque bloodletter of a pop star.
“People want ear candy, and I appreciate that,” he said about the writing process. “I’m just blowing up a balloon and it’s always amazing to see it go off.”

James Cameron may no longer be attached to a new big-screen adaptation of Cleopatra’s life, but “The Tourist” star Angelina Jolie is still considering tackling the tale of the complex Egyptian ruler. “All the pieces are not together.” Jolie said that if everything does eventually fall into place (rumor has it real-life love Brad Pitt may play the part paralleling Richard Burton’s role in the Taylor film), she thinks there will be a great story to tell. Chelsea Handler isn’t the only one with eyes and hands for 50 Cent !
Being a lady doesn’t exactly come naturally to Angelina Jolie . ( Bite your tongue , Chelsea Handler .) Which proved to be something of a problem when she worked with the ever charismatic and gentlemanly Johnny Depp . So what’d she do about it? Murderous complications ensue, thanks to the gangster and his henchmen. “This film is really just a pleasure,” she said, “kind of an escape into a lovely world and how you wish Paris was and how you wish Venice was and how you wish everyone felt this elegant for a moment.” It was thanks to Jolie that “The Tourist” was made. “Brad (Pitt) and I, we never work at the same time,” she explained. And while Handler, 35, has insisted they’re just friends, she didn’t shy away from discussing a few intimate details during her recent appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show . When there was an opening in their schedules, “I said, ‘Is there something that shoots in a great location, that’s a character that I haven’t done before?’ and someone said, ‘There’s this project that shoots in Paris and Venice.’ I said, ‘OK.’ For any of us to be stuck somewhere for two months, Venice is pretty much the top of the list.” Jolie enlisted Oscar-winning writer-director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (“The Lives of Others”) and then Depp. “I think you can tell in watching his (Depp) films you kind of assume that he’s a good guy and a nice guy.

To me, that’s like a slam dunk. But something simple, I get really bored, I leave it, it will burn – I’m a bad person.’ “We had friends in common,” she explained. Of course, that’s harder to be these days, and the star said she remains baffled as to the world’s fascination with her life. Deadline, the normally reliable online entertainment portal broke the initial report that executive producer Darabont had let go the staff in favor of a freelance hiring setup. Hurd labeled the report as “completely inaccurate,” and also revealed that many of the primary actors on the show, no exact names mentioned, have signed on for “multiple seasons.” Hurd, another executive producer on the series, has also confirmed prior reports that the show “will probably return in October,” according to EW. The last episode ended on a semi-religious note with a bath of white light. There’s been a lot of discussion about the similarities and differences between Robert Kirkman’s comic and Frank Darabont’s television adaptation, but for the most part, I’ve embraced the changes that have been made. The notion of a savior and hope and faith in the face of sheer adversity permeates the episode like many a zombie horde.
Six million total viewers tuned in for the sixth and final episode of the season! We all know how that turned out, but I was a little surprised to see the military acting so callously – shooting anyone they came in contact with regardless of whether they were infected or not. The debut ep pulled in 5.3 million viewers. “I think Andrea is in a severe depression,” Holden told MTV News of her character’s state of mind at the end of the finale. Back in the present, Dr. Jenner welcomes the survivors into the CDC facility, but on one condition: that everyone submits to a blood test, just to make sure no one’s infected. “I think she’s very apathetic. He also feeds them dinner and wine so you can’t complain that he’s impolite. Once everyone checks out, Jenner takes them on a tour of Zone 5, and before long, the survivors are laughing, drinking wine, and generally just enjoying themselves for the first time in a long while. Jenner, in a way that is not at all foreboding, says, “Everything is going to be okay.” Like that is ever true.
Whatever sympathy you could have for Shane since the beginning of the episode just disappeared. “I think that will organically unfold where she’ll actually go to the shooting range or something will be written where she’s like, ‘Oh, I’m a natural!’ I am so excited, because I have a little bit of a tomboy in me, but I’m very excited to start going out with the guys and start shooting zombies.” “You can borrow my crossbow,” Reedus added, citing his character’s affinity for culling the zombie hordes with a well-placed crossbow bolt instead of a bullet. This is your brain on zombie virus.” But more poetic.
Most of the survivors were nursing a hangover the next morning, but they still wanted some answers, so Jenner decided to show them what he’s been working on. “That’s so sweet,” laughed Holden. When it comes to the hot-headed, squirrel-hunting younger Dixon brother he plays in the series, Reedus is a bit more optimistic about Daryl’s evolution in Season Two. Oh yeah, and it just so happens to be Jenner’s wife. “I think there are leader qualities in Daryl, so I think once some trust issues are more defined, he’ll take on roles that are less hot-headed,” said the actor. He’s still mostly in the dark on what the virus even is, but he does know that resurrection times vary (as quick as three minutes or as long as eight hours), and though it restarts the brain stem, the brain itself remains inactive.
In Jenner’s eyes, it’s a mercy killing and respite from certain death from zombies. “There is no hope,” he says. “I think once he’s out of the shadow of his big brother, I think he can man up and be less of the eight-year-old, and not exactly a kick-ass man, but a make-decisions man,” said Reedus. It will be nice to see his projects pick up steam with a strong team behind them. Jolie, you may recall, made a love connection with Brad Pitt while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston, a friend of Handler’s. “(Jolie) can rescue as many babies from as many countries as she wants to,” Handler told the crowd, according to Usmagazine.com . “I don’t (bleeping) believe you. Never say never!!!,” he added, “Win or lose … this is #crazy!! the Grammys!!! #Holy crap!!!” Initially, when Justin had to react live during the show he couldn’t exactly get his words out. “Wow. I want to thank … the board. I’m not talking necessarily about the bikinis, but all the elaborate, wonderful, beautiful angel’s wings, so maybe we’ll be thinking along those terms,” the 26-year-old singer told Shaun. While this year’s batch of contenders is mostly devoid of the WTF factor of past nomination seasons, when veteran acts such as Steely Dan, Robert Plant and Herbie Hancock sucked most of the air out of the room, there were still plenty of surprises, omissions and flat-out questionable choices to go around.
The one most people were buzzing about Thursday (December 2) was the blank delivered to Ke$ha, who earned a grand total of zero nominations for her debut, Animal, despite launching several hits and earning a major spot in the pop-culture universe in 2010. Chris Richards’s picks: Record of the Year. Who should win: Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now” Who will win: Jay-Z feat. That has resulted in some truly regrettable nominations in the past, but also in many fine lobs from left field. Who should win: Lady Gaga, “The Fame Monster” Who will win: Eminem, “Recovery” Song of the Year. Behind Eminem, came everybody’s favorite collaborator, Bruno Mars, with seven nominations (Mars co-wrote and co-produced “(expletive) You!” and co-wrote, co-produced and is featured on B.o. He brought so much musicality to R&B and pop. Arcade Fire doesn’t sell like Katy Perry, but the band’s an artistic force spearheading the indie revolution and deserves to be recognized. “He’s not universally liked for his sparkling personality, but it seems like it’s his time,” she said of the rapper, who had the year’s best-selling album with Recovery and stormed back with some of the most melodic, accessible music of his decade-plus career. WHY?” The answer to that question could be none too pretty. B and Hayley Williams’ mega-hit “Airplanes,” which scored only a Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals acknowledgment. Go inches deep into the nominations list, and blessed variety wins out.

Each year, the Grammy Awards not only serve to recognize the best achievements in music over the past year but also help to elevate certain artists from unknowns to stars and from successes into household names. The latter will probably be true of Bruno Mars once the awards are handed out in February, as the singer and producer was nominated for a total of seven awards during Wednesday night’s “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!” show. The president of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow , said so himself : the Grammy Awards nomination concert, now in its third year, is no “ratings juggernaut.” What it does do, however, is raise awareness for the main event on February 13. Eminem’s comeback year is coming to a perfect close: the MC leads the list of 2011 Grammy nominees with a whopping 10 nods. Mars scored a handful of nominations as a performer for his vocal stylings on the chart-topping B.o. On Wednesday, as the Recording Academy once again nominated Eminem for album of the year along with nine other bids, it again gave accolades to a foul but genius piece of work — Cee Lo’s “(Expletive) You,” an infectious retro groove with an unforgettable, unprintable chorus. B track “Nothin’ on You” and also picked up several nominations as a member of the Smeezingtons, the writing and production trio that consists of Mars, Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. “We don’t know how it feels yet, because we just got the word. “It was meant to be something with flair and first impression and it really took on a life of its own, and I had no idea it would become what it is today.” It’s a sign of how much times, and Eminem himself, have changed that his leading nominations were not controversial, but expected and respected. Craig Ferguson , nominated for Best Spoken Word Album for his audiobook “American on Purpose,” joked that compared to his fellow nominees Carol Burnett, Woody Allen, Jon Stewart and Sarah Silverman , “I’m the crappiest person in this!” Anticipating that his chances are “zero,” he joked, “you get nominated and people immediately start preparing you for being a loser.” “When you talk about a career or longevity, you can’t be a one-trick pony. He’s a good singer, writer, dancer and musician who wants to get better… He’s also pretty good at Guitar Hero.” —Producer Jimmy Jam on Justin Bieber Feeling very much like a winner already was Bruno Mars, who’s up for no less than seven awards. It was the only negative in a brilliant year for Mars, who co-wrote “(Expletive) You” and was also featured on B.o.
All of those acts are probably selling the same amount anyways, right? B in there writing ‘Nothin’ on You’ with us, or Cee Lo writing ‘F— You’ with us.
It’s been one hell of a year.” Of all the awards he’s up for, one Bruno Mars truly hopes to nab is Cee Lo’s “F— You,” which he produced as one-third of The Smeezingtons, “Can that just win a Grammy?,” he joked. It’s really making us feel like we did something. And we’re happy just doing that.” Mars and the Smeezingtons will compete against other heavy hitters like Eminem (10 nominations), Jay-Z (six), Lady Gaga (six) and B.o. B (five) when the Grammys are handed out on Sunday, February 13, 2011.

The anticipation for the Grammys begins to build after the stars come out to play, literally. “You’ve gotta get louder than that!” he demanded during a practice cheer. ——— LL Cool J, the nomination concert’s host, was all business when preparing to present from the mezzanine during one commercial break. Arcade Fire, meanwhile, is up for Album of the Year — arguably the show’s top prize. Bieber’s My World 2.0 is also up for Best Pop Vocal Album, but he’ll have some stiff competition against Gaga, Perry, John Mayer’s Battle Studies and SuBo’s I Dreamed a Dream .
Fox, and joked, “I’m the crappiest person in this race.” ——— When asked what he thought of his band’s nomination for rock alternative album, Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses asked reporters, “Can I cuss?” The bassist said he drove down from his house in rural Ojai, Calif., in his truck to attend the nominations, while the rest of the band was on the East Coast. Reynolds said they’ve been writing more music on the road because of “this thing they have called the iPad.” That show will also air on CBS and Global. Nominated as a featured guest on B.O.B.’s “Airplanes” (as well as with her own band on the fantastic ballad “The Only Exception”) she explained how the collaboration came to be. “It fell into my lap,” said Williams. “Someone dropped a demo off, I played it loud and the guys told me I was crazy if I didn’t do it.
I love the song, and I don’t think I’d ever do anything if I didn’t fully believe in it.” Williams and B.O.B. only met two months ago at the VMAs, the rest of this Grammy-nominated duet, including the video, was done separately. “Hey, it’s 2010,” Williams shrugged. “We’re just living in the future.” Indeed, some of the night’s nominees couldn’t wait to get rocking.

Natalie Portman stars as 28-year-old ballerina Nina, who appears to have had no life outside of dance. Her mother (Barbara Hershey) gave up a similar career to raise her and has an ambiguous mixture of stage mother emotions — maternal pride, genuine love, and more than a little jealousy. Thanks to 28 years of utter suppression of everything but dance, her id and libido have fermented and festered; she’s already about to blow even before the new gig cranks up the pressure. “Black Swan” is an art-house horror film — 10% “The Red Shoes,” 20% “Pi,” and 70% Polanski’s “Repulsion.” Aronofsky adopts much of the technique, the perspective, and the concept of the latter, which makes a great model. “Repulsion” has the advantage of a bit more ambiguity at the end, but there’s plenty enough here to keep things intriguing. A side note: “Showgirls” might have been a serious contender, but it appeared last week among the five most irresistible guilty-pleasure movies.
“The preparation was, get as skinny as you possibly can as fast as you can and then learn to get en pointe while doing it,” she said. It is tempting to find a reason to talk about “Showgirls” every week, though… — “Mulholland Dr.” (2001): The first intimate encounter between Naomi Watts and Laura Elena Harring is soft and sweet … but because this is a David Lynch movie, naturally the relationship between these two women becomes darker and more complicated.
“I didn’t really cut anything out, I just ate a lot less than I would normally.” Kunis dropped her already petite frame to 95 pounds for her role. Watts, as aspiring starlet Betty Elms (at this point in the film, at least), gets tangled up with Harring’s gorgeous amnesiac Rita. I’m not very competitive, which is not to say I’m not driven because I am. As the two embark on an adventure, playing girl-detective to solve the mystery of Rita’s past, their fear and loneliness lead to a kiss which leads to one of the loveliest lesbian scenes ever filmed. I went in there, started working with her for seven days a week, five hours a day and was put on a 1,200-calorie diet for a total of five or six months,” Kunis explained. She told Entertainment Tonight: ‘To do something that’s really physically challenging for yourself and also have to act at the same time was hard because sometimes you have conflicting needs. I like to work because it’s selfishly fulfilling for me. “It was at the airport (at JFK),” she said.
“I did get one day off, and that was my birthday; Alexandra made me a root beer float.” The feisty 27-year-old added that her regimen didn’t stop for scheduling conflicts, even the Emmys. She said: ‘It was definitely awkward. I’m proud of what I do and I push myself and challenge myself. Play our celebrity hair game now! You can’t just pretend you know what you’re doing. I couldn’t even walk straight.” In bed with Natalie. “We knew it was going to attract attention. We were just hoping that people would walk away after seeing the movie not just isolating in their memory that scene when we have sex. I think it’s important to the story. I think we were like, ‘Let’s just get this over with.’ It’s uncomfortable doing a sex scene. Luckily, we were friends, so we were able to get through it.” Warning to her dad: More heavy breathing to come. “Next is Friends with Benefits , which we wrapped two months ago. Justin and I have quite a few unclothed moments. Since we are locked into Nina’s POV, Hershey and Cassel can only hint at who they may really be, unfiltered through Nina’s growing lunacy; Kunis even manages to redeem herself after her dreadful work in “The Book of Eli.” But mostly, Portman is “Black Swan.” Outside of the Star Wars films, she has never given a bad performance, but the material here gives her the chance to break through to another level. It is inconceivable that she won’t win the Oscar for Best Actress. (On the other hand, it was inconceivable that Naomi Watts wouldn’t win for her similar role in “Mulholland Dr.”…and she wasn’t even nominated.) Andy Klein.

Fitting, then, that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows serves as the opening act of the boy wizard’s adieu ( Part 2 arrives next summer). The first 36 minutes of Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1,” which comes out this weekend, was leaked Tuesday on the file-sharing network BitTorrent. Not that the film is worried about your memory. I don’t think I’ve ever done that in real life, not successfully.” Yes, the boy wizard is all grown up. The last time footage from a studio event film hit the Internet before release was last year’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” An early version of that 20th Century Fox movie was leaked more than a month before it came out in theaters. Which Radcliffe manages with a one-handed flourish. “Quite a long time,” he replies, chuckling, when asked how long he had to rehearse the move. “It’s much harder taking it off yourself than it is taking it off other people, I’ve got to say.” Handsome and square-jawed, the slightly built Radcliffe looks little like his onscreen wizard counterpart as he relaxes on a plush sofa in a dark T-shirt and jeans, a leather jacket slung over the back of the couch. Also, we are vigorously investigating this matter and will prosecute those involved to the full extent of the law.” The footage on BitTorrent contains a watermark that was placed on the DVD, according to the Pirate Bay post. Not that the film has lost its sense of childhood fantasy.
The “Potter” movies, which introduced film fans to the game quidditch and wizardly travel known as “disapparating,” have provided the studio with stability in an unpredictable industry, said Bank, who rates Time Warner “ outperform .” More than 2,200 showings of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” were sold out as of Nov. 17, according to Fandango.com, the online seller. Radcliffe guardedly admits to having a girlfriend, but is tight-lipped about saying anything else. “Yeah, I’m sort of tentatively in a relationship at the moment, the very early days,” said Radcliffe carefully. “A while ago I said in an interview, I admitted that for a long time I’d been saying I hadn’t a girlfriend when I actually had.
The movie, which opens at midnight tonight, may take in as much as $900 million, said Porter Bibb , an analyst with Mediatech Capital Partners in New York. Now I’m no longer going to lie about that, but I won’t say anything beyond that point.” There had been rumours surrounding Radcliffe’s sexuality, especially in the wake of his support for the Trevor Project, an American non-profit organization that provides support and suicide prevention help for troubled gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth.
The film cost about $250 million to make, according to the Internet Movie Database. The series so far has produced a profit of about $1 billion when income from home-video, merchandise, games and other products is also tallied, and ranks as the No. 1 film franchise in worldwide sales, according to the studio. Since New York-based Time Warner completed the spinoff of its cable TV service in March 2009, Warner Bros. has become a larger part of the company, doubling its share of revenue to almost 42 percent from half of that previously.

Brandy said it’s been the “best rollercoaster I’ve ever been on” and she “came in trying to be the best dancer possible.” DWTS helped Bristol “come out of my shell” and taught her to not “take herself seriously.” Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey both agreed the show taught them to work hard. “Accept limitations and push through,” Jennifer said and Kyle explained, “Everything is mental” and you have to “push through the pain.
I can’t wait for next week,” Jennifer said. Tuesday night was perhaps the most shocking elimination in the entire season 11 of “Dancing With the Stars” : R&B singer Brandy was the celebrity who went home, in spite of being asked to do the evening’s reprisal dance, the Argentine tango. Brandy and Maks were eliminated. “I don’t know what to say, it hasn’t processed yet,” Brandy said after the announcement. Of the experience she says, “I’m a completely different person,” Brandy said of her experience on DWTS and said of Maks that, “He’s going to be a friend of mine forever.” After the show Brandy told reporters of her elimination, ” I am numb. But the results proved that popularity can weigh more heavily than dancing skills. He felt Palin was not a good dancer. There’s something unsettling about Bristol’s suddenly becoming bigger than the show. On Monday night’s show, Palin gave her best performance of the entire competition, with the judges telling the politician’s daughter that she was on fire. I’m so proud of me, and I say that humbly, and I’m so proud of Maks as well, I’m really tapped into a power that I think was gone and I’m so thankful for that.” And Maks is happy with the experience he had this season. “She taught me that when one door closes another one opens and there’s definitely a lot of doors open right now and whatever I said on the floor I mean, I never said I don’t like Bristol Palin. I’m a dancer, not a politician,” he told reporters. “This season I’ve been so focused on Brandy, I haven’t looked at anyone else. “I am shocked because last night Brandy delivered a fantastic performance. We’ve just seen it, amazing!” judge Bruno Tonioli said. “But I have to stress it is very, very important for everybody to vote. It’s so close, every vote counts you got to get out there and get on the phone. And I’m so disappointed, your freestyle, I was looking forward so much to seeing it! So please, on Tuesday when you come back for the finale, do it for me, will you?” Norwood and Chmerkovskiy had finished in third place on Monday night’s judging leaderboard after they received 57 out of 60 possible points from Tonioli and fellow Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba during Monday’s show which featured the competition’s four remaining couples each performing a Latin dance and a second ballroom routine.
This was an outrage, true?” “True,” admitted Brandy, but she didn’t bash Bristol. “But I’m very blessed to have been a part of something so amazing, where I can rediscover who I am, challenge myself and prove to myself that if I really commit to something and give it my all, I can be success.” Though he’s known for being hot-tempered, Chmerkovskiy , took the elimination in stride. It was unclear whether Cowan has retained an attorney. The couple who had been widely considered, along with actress Jennifer Grey and partner Derek Hough , one of the two favorites to win Dancing with the Stars’ eleventh-season trophy had received 27 points for their paso doble and a perfect score of 30 points for their Argentine tango. “People vote and their voices count,” he said. It’s probably been the most rewarding season for me because I didn’t only do my job as a dance professional, but I helped a friend and in return I got more help than I could of ever hoped for. It’s been a very challenging season and I got more support than I imagined.” OK !

And I want you to know that this award is meaningful to him.” “Tonight, we will give the Academy’s highest honors to four people,” Sherak said. “Those four people couldn’t be more different from each other, and I couldn’t be happier about that. I have tremendous pride in my Academy’s governors for voting this awards to such a creatively diverse group.” The Academy turned to several of its past and present governors to testify to Godard’s influential contributions as a director. You’ve also said really snarky things about Hollywood and the Oscars, but then again so has everyone in this room at least once. “Godfather” director Coppola was given the night’s biggest honor, the Irving G. The 71-year-old director of such classics as “The Godfather,” “The Conversation,” and “Apocalypse Now” is the latest recipient of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ Irving G. Thalberg Award, for visionary producing. The idea behind the Governors Awards was to move the academy’s lifetime honors off-camera, thus speeding up the Oscar broadcast. He was our inspiration,” Lucas said before giving Coppola the Thalberg trophy, which is considered the highest honor the Academy can give.
In his acceptance, Wallach looked back on a career where he has played more than his share of bandits, thieves and killers even though in real life he collects antique clocks, watches tennis matches and lives for his family. The bawdy asides are one — last year, the honoree Lauren Bacall let slip that she’d been after Gregory Peck , but his wife got in the way. “You’re an inspiration and one of my biggest influences. Another are the rambling, heartfelt tributes and thanks that have a way of hitting home just when it looks like things are falling apart. Your recognition of my artistry means something very dear to me. Until last year, the group had always handed out the honors on the same night as the Academy Awards. Thalberg Memorial Award, that’s okay. If the Academy opts to use count ‘em, seven different members of the Board of Governors to speak glowingly of the absent Godard before running Jon Bloom’s sly film package saluting the director, nobody’s going to tune out. Bennett, who was introduced as Wallach’s longtime friend, sang two songs in the actor’s honor.
I don’t act to live. I live to act.” But he didn’t leave the podium before offering up a ribald joke, worthy of Woody Allen , about a hooker who offers a 90-year-old man “super sex.” Responds the old man, “All right, I’ll take the soup.”

How to get a show back on the road when its star is sidelined? The fix will allow the show to resume shooting in January even if Lovato, 18, isn’t available. “This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,” a Disney Channel spokeswoman said. “Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues.” The Disney star recently interrupted her music tour to enter a treatment center. She’ll chug booze straight from the bottle.” Last week, the 18-year-old Disney princess checked into an Illinois rehabilitation center citing “physical and emotional issues.” Life & Style spoke with Texas college student Brian Payne , who claims he spent a night hanging with Demi where she was snorting cocaine at a party. Signs of Demi’s unhappiness have been there for a while. He dished that she did “line after line like a pro.
Ever since Demi Lovato entered rehab last week, we have heard every kind of rumor imaginable: she was pregnant, she was cutting, she was doing cocaine, and now the latest – he boyfriend, David Osborn, died tragically in a tubing accident. The idea isn’t entirely out of left field: One “episode” of So Random! already aired Oct. 17 as a stand-alone special, the network was pleased with its performance, and another one is slated for later this month.
I remember her doing it as if she had been doing it for a long time.” Also, Radaronline.com reported yesterday that a video of Demi snorting drugs is being shopped around to different media outlets, but they have not yet seen the tape. Kiss his academic career good bye! lol. This was also a blind item a few weeks back.
No one is that stupid. “This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,” a Disney Channel spokeswoman told Variety . They heard Demi was drinking, but the news that her partying was getting out of control shocked them.” “This is a young girl who got caught up in the fame and fortune of Hollywood and couldn’t see straight anymore,” says another insider. “She had eating issues and emotional issues, and everything else got hitched along with that.” You know these young stars get so much handed to them these days it’s inevitable for them to experiment with drugs. Don’t shoot the messenger.

“The country’s 24-hour politico-pundit-perpetual-panic conflictinator did not cause our problems, but its existence makes solving them that much harder,” said Stewart in a speech that wrapped up the event.
The three-hour “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear” mixed comedy and music with a message that was non-partisan, yet deeply political. Coffee and soda, to be exact. To say that you couldn’t see the stage, or even hear it, wouldn’t be an exaggeration— many had to climb a tree (literally) to even catch a glimpse of the one jumbo TV screen. “We did the march-of-the-penguins walk in the crowd for about an hour,” Georgetown University student Anam Raheem told me. “But it was too crowded; we had to turn back.” Thousands of rally goers brought signs and costumes in support of politically hot-button issues. “I came to meet some people,” said Mark Feeney, a resident of Buffalo, New York who sported a green outfit with a sign that displayed the benefits of marijuana. “But we have to be smart, not stupid.
“The truth is, we work together to get things done every damn day,” he said.
“When I see this crowd, I feel I am not alone. If we legalize pot, we’ll create more revenue and jobs.” Although Proposition 19, which would legalize recreational marijuana in California, was one of the more common issues seen on signs, other topics were equally supported, such as abortion, equality for gays, space travel, and most vehemently, backlash against the Tea Party movement. “I came to have fun,” Pennsylvania resident Eric Hafner said, “But we need to also show people that extremism is really overblown.” Tea Party candidate Christine O’Donnell was most widely targeted, with many rally goers dressed as witches or giant tea bags, holding signs that read, “Tea Party rallies need more tea.” Despite both Stewart and Colbert’s appeal to a younger generation, there was an eclectic age range of rally goers, including marijuana-supporting seniors. “We love both the ‘Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report,’” said Diane Gatley who is 61. “Back to sanity for us. Later, Stewart underscored his disdain for how some of the media operates when he was asked how he thought they would react to his barbs: “Don’t care.” “Our currency is not this town’s currency,” he said to reporters at the National Press Club after the rally. And a man dressed as a bear wore a T-shirt reading, “Free Bear Hugs.” It is perhaps a measure of the volatility of American politics that two TV comedy shows were able to tap into something deep among American voters, who turned out in the tens of thousands on Saturday to add their voices to a national debate that some said had left them behind.

We can tell you his response. You’re never too old to trick-or-treat. “I love free candy,” said Nate, 17, a senior who is active in theater and runs track at Olathe East High School. “I still take my pillowcase. Authorities say a Blue Springs man who was intoxicated, coming from a Halloween party last year, collided with a vehicle on U.S. 24, killing an Independence teenager and injuring two girls.
Regardless when or where one observes Halloween this weekend, the same goal exists for public-safety personnel across the area: a celebration free of injuries and crimes. “Our number one goal, of course, is the health and safety of our children,” said Lt. Jim Armbrister of the Mount Airy Police Department’s Community Services Division.

The clip has a zombie-movie feel to it, and not just because I had the first three episodes of “The Walking Dead” knocking around in my brain. It was something about the way that the Paul crowd paws and pulls at the activist and then forces her to the ground. “They’re coming to get you, Bah -bara,” taunted horn-rimmed Johnny in the cemetery. However, this is a bit more fun, no?
“There’s one now.” There, wandering among the headstones in his tattered funeral suit.
Still, I prefer Bear McCreary’s official music, and as a total Battlestar Galactica nerd, I’m really looking forward to McCreary’s score for The Walking Dead , too. Then too many of them. Then pandemonium, apocalypse, the end of everything. Even his wife and best friend (Bernthal) aren’t around. And if you missed it yesterday, take a peek at our interview with Lincoln’s co-star, and on-screen wife, Sarah Wayne Callies . Barbara, they are still coming. The deputy learns the secret and begins the trek to find everyone else. We have become zombies who watch stuff about zombies. They’re everywhere, clamoring to get in buildings, cars and homes. This is a really really exciting opportunity, this job. The only way to put them out of their misery is to shoot them. “It’s a struggle to find humanity,” says Bernthal. He was Rick’s pit bull. And, no, Bernthal says, it’s not like “Lost.” “In this there’s a basic human need – survival.
But it’s really just a family drama set in the highest of possible stakes. So you’re not a nerd. There’s a potential end to that. We look to find some humanity in an unbelievably inhumane world. It doesn’t take much for me to get geeky about anything. I’m like a magpie.
Frank lets Shane be right some of the time, but he also lets Shane go off the deep end and screw up.” And the zombies? “They’re incredible,” Bernthal says. ‘When you look at the makeup and the effects, you realize there’s something special going on. It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to flex your muscles. It’s the most complete role I’ve ever played because I get to physically inhabit this guy. Mobs lined up outside the Apple Store, groaning with the desire to devour Steve Jobs’s braiiiin. The moans coming from town hall meetings and campaign stops; the stench left in the “comments” field of online articles; the shrieks and cries coming from cable news networks.

Welcome back to the ballroom! The heavy metal “DWTS” lettering on the judges’ table and elsewhere a striking hybrid between the fonts typically associated with Darkwing Duck and KISS proved it. But, alas, we soldier on in order to be sure that you, our three wonderful readers (Hi Mom!) know what is going on. Their quickstep last week took them to the next level, and this week their tango kept them there.
An angry rock mob!” joked host Tom Bergeron. Brandy rocked some silver leggings and a blingy corset top, and perhaps more importantly, Maks squeezed into some tight-fitting gray leather pants. They also won the rock ‘n roll dance marathon for 10 more points. And now for another installment of “Dancing” with the “Stars”…and it is rock week! All of these dances make us long for seasons past. Without a doubt for me, the dance of the night.” “That tango really rocked!” said Bruno, who equated Brandy to Tina Turner from “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.” “There was something amazing about your true passion,” said Carrie Ann. She is third from the bottom. Would anyone really complain if the show was only an hour and a half? Sorry, but what was I supposed to do? Audrina has always had a problem channeling the character in her performances, and it came to bite her in the cherry red rear end during her rocked out paso doble, set to Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust.” “You may be thinking too much,” Tony suggested. Talking about the new album, Kylie said she really feels as though she is ‘back on track’ with Aphrodite. Might I suggest not enough?
Turns out it was an excellent tango! This annoying segment will only be worth it if Apolo Ohno’s Samba is on it. I thought Brandy was about to have a nervy b after the dance. “I just know what feels good, and it doesn’t feel good to be off balance and it doesn’t feel good to miss your steps and it doesn’t feel good to be out of control,” Grey said. Also quite enjoyed how Cheryl (who I’m pretty sure the disembodied British announcer introduced as “Cheryl Birch” right before the performance) rocked those patent silver boots. “I’m always impressed with your hold and your posture,” said Len to Rick. “I thought you did an excellent job.” “It was like a Mohican on the war path,” said a not-so-PC Bruno. It’s a really dance-y album, but I think it’s pop dance. Carrie Ann loved the “amazing” mix of intensity and passion, but “sometimes you got so stern that we lost he person behind the Rick.” Total: 24. ‘It has a lot of emotional moments, whether it’s just a kind of tender, soft feeling and then there’s these explosive, euphoric rushes – so I think that the balance throughout it is really amazing.’ Judge Carrie Ann Inaba tells Audrina she “lacks intention” while dancing. “My boobs are in the way,” the sweet, wholesome girl complained as she practiced the paso doble. Hearing that explanation, Audrina looks … blank.
“I’m just filled with excitement when we get good, positive feedback and the crowd was going crazy and I just thought it was such a good performance.” Kurt Warner and partner Anna Trebunskaya ended up in last for both dances.
DNCMSTR lamented that Audrina has top-three potential but cannot show the character of the Latin dances. Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer keep on sliding toward the bottom of the heap, vote-wise.
Chris agrees to wear a girl’s top, but tells Kyle sternly, “Don’t dip me!” As usual, Kyle does not listen. Bruno had a remedy: She should simply imagine she is anyone with the first name “Eva.” Carrie Ann offered a really good note about intention and hilariously prefaced it, “Let me put it in a way that you might understand.” NEXT: Jay Manuel, Martha Stewart, and Adam Lambert! Wait, which reality show are we watching again?

Doctors say the singer and the twins will spend the next few days in the Florida hospital. Stoessel said Dion’s enthusiasm to have healthy children really set her apart. “There’s a special flame that she has that’s really bright and very enduring,” the physician said Sunday. “It’s always a pleasure to have someone so highly motivated and loving and caring.” The twins, he noted, were born with a shocking amount of hair. “We were making comments that she’s going to need to have stylists come and take care of them,” Stoessel said with a laugh. The 42-year-old superstar was just over 35 weeks pregnant when she gave birth. “Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up,” her spokesperson says. At a press conference outside St. Mary’s Medical Center, Dion’s longtime obstetrician talked about the successful delivery and what the babies look like. His brother, born one minute afterwards, weighed six ounces less (2.38 kg). René-Charles, 9, has been to the hospital to visit and is so excited for his new brothers. The singer had been struggling to get pregnant since early last year.
She lives in Jupiter Island, Fla.

Now, conflicting reports emerged on Sunday, making the issue even more puzzling. According to People , “observers” caught Jesse, 41, and Kat, 28, exchanging some very public affection at West Hollywood restaurant El Compadre on Saturday, where they reportedly “chatted and kissed” at their table. The tattooed twosome, who reportedly shared a cheese enchilada and left a “generous tip,” appeared to be in “good spirits.” However, TMZ tells a very different story. She was already dating Jesse,, and she was clearly worried about her comments on Nikki, and ‘freaked out’ and ‘went ballistic’ on producers earlier this week over the scenes, She demanded they cut them, along with others where she talks about a “Nikki vs. Kat went back to her old boyfriend Nikki Sixx , leaving Jesse James to once again face the single world as a heavily-tattooed misanthrope. “Kat used Jesse to win Nikki back, and it worked,” a friend of hers told the tabloid. “She also was using Jesse for the press.” Kat has a new book and TV show coming out, and that had as much to do with the relationship with James, who famously cheated on ex Sandra Bullock, as anything else.
Although, I’ve known Jesse for a long time, since I was 22-years-old,” she explained to Access . “We’ve been friends forever and this is definitely something that I think we weren’t expecting, and it’s been great.” Inside the celebration for the tattoo artist’s gallery opening, Access spotted Jesse meeting Kat’s dad for the first time. The new couple chatted and posed with other guests throughout the night, appearing very happy together.
