The biggest hurdle will be the price tag ($15). Now come the caveats. You get a free 30-day trial gives you plenty of time to decide. The more major complaint is that the app only recognized some, but not all of our playlists, even after running through some of the protocol that the company suggested when we presented our findings.
Launch the app, and it wirelessly syncs the music in your desktop computer’s iTunes account to your phone. No cables, no docking, no worries.
Syncing took some time, as is to be expected, but the app could do with more helpful hints communicating the estimated time remaining in a sync and more importantly, when you’ve stopped syncing and can start listening. At least that’s the theory.
But the app comes with a free two-week trial period, so you can see whether a lifetime of hassle-free syncing is worth the price of a movie ticket. Music played on the built-in music player as expected, however. Understood.

Now that’s been granted, the French three-strikes system for combating piracy is almost ready to go, pending a little bit of government paperwork. But Google general counsel Kent Walker, in a blog posting, said the decision “is an important victory not just for us, but also for the billions of people around the world who use the Web to communicate and share experiences.” Groups that want to promote widespread Internet use also applauded the ruling, saying that most websites don’t have the resources to determine whether user-supplied videos violate the law. “As the law now stands, prompt compliance with take-down notices shields an online service provider from liability,” says Sherwin Siy, deputy legal director of Public Knowledge, an activist group that encourages citizen access to media.
Although Google has no ties to any of the file-sharing websites, BPI is holding the company responsible because its search engine directs users to such sites. Team CMU will have their eyes on the proceedings though, and we’ll be keeping a good watch on the other big festival this weekend too, London’s Hard Rock Calling. Legal scholars predicted the outcome of this landmark suit would determine who profited the most from content: the people who pay for its creation, or the people who pay for its creation, or the people who help disseminate it over the Web. The judge ruled that damages were not available for content produced outside America. Every minute of the day, people post 24 hours’ worth of videos to YouTube, the ruling noted.

There was lots of talk yesterday about when or if Google will enter the online music sales business this week. Per day.
But most of the time, there is an advertisement to buy the song currently playing (or a related tune) that pops up below the video. At the end of the day, though, WSJ reports, yesterday’s ruling is a setback for media companies, who for years have been trying to curb Internet companies’ ability to distribute their content without compensating them. I don’t see Google embracing the ‘traditional iTunes model’ that has netted Apple something like 10+billion songs downloaded. That translates to seven views per second since it was uploaded — morning, noon, and night.
The stakes on that front were extremely high.” The stakes remain high, Goldman said, given that Wednesday’s decision could be reversed on appeal. “These are American icons beating each other up in court,” he said. “In this case, it is uncontroverted that when YouTube was given the notices, it removed the material,” the judge said. “What the DMCA has done more than anything is that it is not a game of perfect,” Howell said. That’s right, search for a TV show or movie title now surfaces extra data. After all, this vertical is devoted to entertainment. Story telling has been community experience from the start of time. There’s nothing better than watching a basketball game and talking to people about it … but I think we should accept that the audience has a voice with their dollars but let’s not say they have a right to how it will end. Lady Gaga, who is very good, has 220 billion hits on one video and total income from streaming last year was $10,000.

A query for “r.e.m. radio free europe lyrics,” for instance, will connect you to a page with the song’s inscrutable verbiage (“Keep me out of country in the word”) and an option to listen to the 1983 recording. Searches for “Mad Men” and “The Office,” however, yielded nothing special. One percent at best. Entertaining people is wasting their time. Hmm. I will definitely try out Bing Entertainment for a week or two to see how I like it.

But the updated Nutsie app hasn’t come out yet, and when I contacted a spokesman about two weeks ago, he told me that Melodeo had some big news coming up that was delaying its product plans.
But, overall, Apple has delivered a big, well-designed update that, in my view, keeps it in the cloud and stream it to a phone without needing an active computer at home. A beta version launches next quarter and it will be generally available in Q4. It could be critical to HP’s webOS tablet plans as it wouldn’t need a large amount of storage to hold a user’s entire media library. But Melodeo ups the ante: HP now has the technology and people to help build its own online music service, competing with whatever the other big mobile players are positioning themselves for a world in which consumers stream music from the cloud rather than downloading it directly to their devices. Mangalindan’s statement said HP is “excited about the potential of this technology to bring the power of cloud-based delivery service to millions of customers.” HP isn’t disclosing the purchase price, but Melodeo’s investors had put more than $19 million into the company. Google’s rumored music service would have a streaming music option, but the music itself would be subscription based and wouldn’t necessarily be a mirror of the customer’s local music library. Most people won’t be able to get either one for a month or so. Apple-owned Lala, which recently inked deals with Google and social networking behemoth Facebook, offers a library of approximately 6 million tracks, while iTunes offers 11 million tracks and sells individual MP3s for $1.29. The approach would go so far as to add two-way sync that sees music added on a computer or on the phone pushed up to the server. First, if you try a query that Bing recognizes as musically inclined, it will include links to play relevant songs–in many cases, entire recordings, not just 30-second previews–and view their lyrics. TV-schedule listings are supposed to come later. A query for “Toy Story 3,” meanwhile, brought up a Bing page showing the episode at a more normal size. Searches for “Mad Men” and “The Office,” however, yielded nothing special. That’s “potentially” because some of these features aren’t working yet.
