Director George Hickenlooper , who won an Emmy Award for the documentary “Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse,” has died. Hickenlooper was found dead Saturday morning, Denver police told the Associated Press. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, who is running for governor of Colorado, said in a statement that his cousin died of natural causes. George Hickenlooper was in Denver for the premiere at a film festival of his latest movie, “Casino Jack,” starring Kevin Spacey . Among his other films was one called ‘Hick’ Town, a documentary that followed his cousin at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. According to The Denver Post , Hickenlooper appears to have died of natural causes. The Denver Post reports that Hickenlooper appears “to have died of natural causes” and that no foul play is suspected. Hickenlooper’s cousin, Denver mayor John Hickenlooper , said in a statement Saturday, “Shock and sadness do not begin to describe our emotions. “Shock and sadness do not begin to describe our emotions. “Hearts of Darkness” dealt with the making of Francis Ford Coppola ‘s 1979 film “Apocalypse Now” and first aired on Showtime.

“I thought that there was a strong parallel between Francis making the movie and the war itself,” Hickenlooper told The Times in 1992.
