When Gwyneth Paltrow earned a standing ovation after her live singing debut at Wednesday’s CMA Awards, country’s biggest stars took notice. The Oscar winner gets rave reviews for her performance of Country Strong , which doubles as the title of her forthcoming film. “Gwyneth is a great singer,” three-time CMA Award winner Miranda Lambert tells me backstage. “I’ve never got to meet her, but she did a great job, and I think she’s probably really country, and I think she really seems very genuine, and can’t lose with Vince Gill . Gwyneth Paltrow made her live country music debut with “Country Strong,” the theme song from her upcoming film from the same name that sees Paltrow play and up-and-coming country singer. Pax is a better cook than me. While Swift didn’t win any awards (her album Speak Now was released too late in the year for consideration; look for her to sweep next year), but she did take the stage to perform the epic ballad “My December” (her song about former boyfriend Taylor Lautner) on the CMA stage. While maybe not quite as intense as her 2010 MTV Video Music Awards delivery of “Innocent,” it was still dramatic and gripping. What was your favorite moment from the CMA Awards? Any house that we’re in, we all chip in. … This can result in a certain self-consciousness—her detractors would say “coldness”; I’d call it braininess. And I find such bright professional strategizing, when it’s executed this energetically, charming. I think that was the biggest reaction of the night, too, with the crowd.” Hillary Scott marvels, “Talk about a stamp of music cred. That’s definitely amazing, and it’s any country artist’s dream.” Sounds like Gwyneth has won over the country crowd!
