Bob Dylan plans CMAC show

CANANDAIGUA — Bob Dylan, who recently turned 70, is showing no signs of slowing down.

The music legend has scheduled an 8 p.m. Aug. 9 show at the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 4355 Lakeshore Drive, on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College. He will be joined by fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Dylan, a multiple award-winning artist, has an extensive — and often poetic — catalog of songs from which to choose from. In six decades of writing, singing and playing he has performed folk, rock, country and gospel music.

Dylan is a member of four notable Halls of Fame. In addition to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he is also a member of the Grammy,  Songwriters and Nashville Songwriters halls.

“Like a Rolling Stone,” Dylan’s biggest hit, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard charts in 1965. Other familiar songs include “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “The Times They Are a-Changin.”

His career spans more than 60 albums, including five that have topped the charts.

Russell, 69, is no slacker, either. He began performing in 1956 and has 42 albums to his name. His most commercially successful song, “Tightrope,” reached No. 11 in 1972.

Dylan has stopped frequently in Western New York in recent years, playing shows at Darien Lake, Canandaigua and most recently, a Nov. 6, 2010, concert at Rochester Institute of Technology.

Dylan is currently touring through Europe, with a June 20 show in Tel Aviv, before returning stateside and the West Coast in July.
