Schimmel, 60, was a passenger in his 19-year-old daughter’s car on August 26 when she lost control after swerving to avoid another accident on a Phoenix highway. The daughter was hospitalized, but is expected to recover. Robert Schimmel, famous comedian who specialized in taboo-breaking humor of the sexual and scatological died on Friday at a Phonix hospital. He was getting treatment for his injuries that he got in a car accident that took place on Aug 26. He was well known for his cool behavior and temperament. Schimmel made regular appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show and was a frequent guest on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” He starred in comedy specials for Showtime and HBO, shot a sitcom pilot for Fox and made several well-received comedy CDs. Bragman said Aliyah Schimmel swerved to avoid another vehicle and lost control of the car, sending it rolling to the side of the freeway.

His direct observations cannot be denied. His 11-year-old son, who also was in the car, was reportedly released from the hospital hours after the accident. He turned his pain into laughs. In 1986, Dangerfield invited Schimmel to perform on his HBO “Young Comedians Special,” setting the young comic on his path to fame. In addition to appearing with Stern, Schimmel was a frequent guest on ” Late Night With Conan O’Brien .” The self-deprecating Schimmel was known for incorporating details from his personal life – the good, the bad and the ugly – into his routines. Moreover, with a lot of these topics, he seems more interested in the ego and emotional workings behind the behavior — not so much the sex, but the sexual politics.” His personal manager Lee Kernis of Brillstein Entertainment said of Schimmel: “Most of his act came from his life, and his life was pretty tumultuous and interesting. … Schimmel survived a heart attack and battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Humor is what gets you through everything, and it got him through everything.” Robert Schimmel was born Jan. 16, 1950, in New York City. His first marriage ended in a messy divorce; he was on the brink of splitting with his second wife. He served in the Air Force and his practical joking frequently got him in trouble with his superiors, his brother said.

Schimmel’s 11-year-old son was also a passenger in the car and was uninjured, according to media reports. The actor was best known for his radio work on “The Howard Stern Show” and had appeared on several HBO programs, including his own special, “Unprotected.” Schimmel had a heart attack in 1998 and in 2000 was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, from which he recovered.
