We’re told Lindsay has gotten resourceful she’s working out in her room, doing push-ups and sit-ups every day. Are LiLo’s problems due to one bad diagnosis? Judge Elden Fox to review actress’ case on Aug. 25 Staff report.
Although no decision has yet been made on when Lindsay Lohan will be released from rehab, a new judge on the case, Judge Elden Fox, on Wednesday set a status hearing for Aug. 25. Haraszti said these people can display manic symptoms and do things like “driving around until all hours of the morning, smoking heavily, tweeting and texting all night long. They can become very impulsive.” Haraszti then added these people “might complain of insomnia and then take Ambien or other sleep aids to help fall asleep in a vicious cycle.” Another addiction expert, Dr. Marc Kern, told Fox News alcohol abuse is common with patients who unnecessarily take Adderall. Addiction specialist Dr. Joe Haraszti told TMZ that people who unnecessarily take Adderall can experience similar effects as those who use cocaine or methamphetamine.

Sticks and stones aside, some words do hurt. Just look at the reaction to Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s use of the N-word and Jennifer Aniston’s R-word slip . Jennifer Aniston has come under fire for using the word “retard” during an interview. “Yes, I play dress up! On Live with Regis and Kelly Thursday, the Switch star, 41, was discussing dressing up as Barbra Streisand for the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar when she let the word slip. Now Aniston is the latest celebrity to come under fire for using the word “retard,” which is considered offensive, during an interview Thursday on “Live With Regis and Kelly.” While discussing dressing up as Barbra Streisand for Harper’s Bazaar, Aniston let the word slip. “I play dress up, I do it for a living, like a retard,” she said. PHOTOS: Jennifer Aniston through the years “You’re playing dress up!” Regis told her. It seems that everyone is offended … but for different reasons: the use of the word, Aniston herself, people’s thin skins, censorship, you name it.
“Yes, I play dress up!” she replied. Even if it wasn’t intended to insult them, that is the effect of it.” So will Sarah Palin jump to Twitter-defend Aniston, as she did when Dr. Laura’s “1st Amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence” ? “Frankly, someone in her position ought to know better. “I do it for a living, like a retard!” The reaction was immediate and harsh. Julie – Well, my son is developmentally disabled (autistic). Even if it wasn’t intended to insult them, that is the effect of it.” PHOTOS: Friends stars, then and now Other celebs have been scolded for using the “R word,” including Howard Stern and Lindsay Lohan . “People with intellectual disabilities have fought their whole lives for understanding and recognition. When people continue to use the R word, it’s hurtful.” Stars may want to use the word “ridiculous” instead, she says. ”Think before you speak,” Seckler advises, “especially when you’re making fun of yourself or others.” PHOTOS: What does 2010 hold for Jen Aniston and these stars Adds Seckler, “We have a very passionate group of people advocating for change in their communities and schools to change the use of this word.” Get more Us! Generally, it’s not even used as a term in special education because it’s so negative … Stop being too sensitive or overly P.C. Jeff – People are way too sensitive in this country. I think it stems from “pop psychology” and the message that the media sends, that everyone ought to feel good about themselves. So she used an offensive word, big deal.
“The pervasive use of the R-word, even in an off-the-cuff self-deprecating manner, dehumanizes people with intellectual disabilities and perpetuates painful stereotypes that are a great source of suffering and negative stigma.” Aniston, who took Bill O’Reilly to task on “Good Morning America” for saying she was “destructive to our society” after she defended single motherhood, has so far stayed mum about the flap. Her rep did not respond immediately to ABCNews.com’s request for comment.

Ryan, best known for performing several surgeries on “The Hills” star Heidi Montag, was killed when his 1995 Jeep Wrangler fell off the side of the twisty Pacific Coast Highway and fell on its roof. “He lived up in Malibu on a tiny street, and he was texting while driving, and he accidentally went over the cliff,” she told the magazine. A California Highway Patrol spokesperson confirmed for People that Ryan was texting before the crash, but investigators have not yet determined the official cause of the accident. Ryan, 50, of Beverly Hills, famously performed 10 plastic surgery procedures on Montag, 23, in one day last year.
Much harder than it looks! “Part of his legacy will be the people he never treated – the people who never came into Beverly Hills.” “I’m devastated,” Lawonna Rashad, also connected to Ryan’s charity, told PEOPLE. People magazine reported at the time that Montag’s mother was “horrified” by her surgeries.
“He was the most amazing person I have ever known. “I’ve known him for nine years. As take-this-job-and-shove-it moments go, Steven Slater’s was epic. Kennedy International Airport, the veteran flight attendant finally had enough. LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – It was perhaps inevitable that the world’s most famous flight attendant would enlist a Hollywood publicist. According to gawker.com , “Spirit, the airline known for charging $45 for carry-on bags, has created the world’s most brilliant Steven Slater spoof ad: a man, sliding down a chute, with beers”. Slater’s attorney has reportedly received an offer for the famous quitter to host a reality TV show , where he would help other people quit their jobs. “I know that people find the concept of a gay flight attendant shocking, but it’s true,” Bragman joked.
According to nytimes, for the first 48 hours, JetBlue said nothing about the matter, an unusual course of action — or inaction — for a company known for skillfully cultivating the public through social media like blogs, Facebook and Twitter. “This is a symptom of a much larger problem,” reportedly said Michael Watras, president and chief executive at Straightline International, a branding consultancy in New York. “The airlines need to say, ‘We hear you, we feel this, and we’re here not just to get you from Point A to Point B but to treat you with respect,’ ” he added. But if workers everywhere can relate, the fact that most people manage not to flame out dramatically raises questions about the point where patience and tolerance run out and meltdowns happen. More importantly, such incident has been splashed all over the web, including its coverage on several social media platforms. That, it turns out, varies – and builds up differently – from person to person, mental health experts say. We actually went together last weekend to Las Vegas to see Barry Manilow.” Although Bragman believes that Slater has the potential to have more than 15 minutes of fame, he said his first job is to help his client deal with the pending criminal charges against him, then sift through the offers of reality shows, interviews and books. It again signifies the importance of a defensive social media strategy. First, in case you haven’t noticed, people need jobs right now, they don’t need to quit them—Slater being the glorified exception. “They reach the end of their resources.” Why one person blows and another doesn’t may be found after backtracking their lives, she adds. If this project gets green-lighted, they’d better shoot with high-speed film, because this dude’s hot moment is cooling off faster than Tiger Woods ‘ marriage. Our first job is to get beyond the criminal charges and to deal with that. Gibson not hurt in car accident Mel Gibson was involved in a single-car accident Sunday night in Malibu, Calif., radaronline.com reports. People who have a strong sense of me-and-my-rights don’t do well because they need to fight back.” A short-tempered, tired or stressed person may be more likely to pop off, of course. He and the baby’s mother, ex-girlfriend Oksana Gregorieva , are embroiled in a bitter custody battle.
“If everyone behaved themselves on an airplane and left in a nice, orderly line, the plane would clear out faster…. One of the marks of being an adult is keeping your … together.” Slater, out on bail after being charged with two felony counts, including criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and trespassing, said in a news story, “I think something about this resonated with people.

As take-this-job-and-shove-it moments go, Steven Slater’s was epic.
Kennedy International Airport , the veteran flight attendant finally had enough. As JetBlue’s take-this-job-and-shove-it-steward Steven Slater enjoys his 15 minutes in the spotlight, folks are already asking who could play him in a movie. He commandeered the public address system, according to news accounts, hurled a few profanities, grabbed a beer (or beers), deployed the emergency chute and slid into infamy. Marjorie Briskin, a 53-year-old schoolteacher from Pittsburgh, said she was deplaning in John F. As the Steven Slater story continues to unfold, all matter of news media pontificate Slater’s place as a recession-era, working-class hero and tut-tut the injuries that didn’t —but could have — happened. But, in fact, there’s only one actor who could do Slater’s my-way-or-the-flyway exit justice, and that’s Stephen Stucker, who so memorably played Johnny, the completely-off-the-wall air traffic controller in 1980′s “Airplane!” Responding to a call of “Mayday!” Johnny exclaims, for example, “May day?
“Perhaps you heard a little story about one of our flight attendants?” the blog joked. Almost everyone, especially those who have worked with the public in a customer service/hospitality/sales clerk position, can relate to that “snap” moment, when something has to give. Why that’s the Russian new year. JetBlue didn’t disclose any information on the case, saying it will let “people speak on their own behalf.” In a posting titled “Sometimes the weird news is about us,” JetBlue noted while it isn’t talking, plenty of others have formed opinions. But if workers everywhere can relate, and applaud, such actions, the fact that most people manage not to flame out dramatically raises questions about the point where patience and tolerance have run out and meltdowns happen. Ms. Briskin said the seemingly normal conversation turned unexpectedly nasty when Mr. Slater blurted out an expletive to the passenger. But as this compendium of his scenes from “Airplane!” suggests, a lot of his irrepressible brio lives on in his fellow Steven. “I didn’t think she was rude in the least,” said Ms. Briskin, who was visiting the city for the first time. All the kids are doin’ it!
People who work in customer service may be especially vulnerable. “It really blew my mind. The pressures can trump even the most resilient people’s equanimity, says Kathleen Shea, a Chicago-based clinical psychologist who specializes in workplace issues.
It was so inappropriate.” Ms. Briskin said Mr. Slater sported a “nice gash” on his head for most of the flight, during which there were no problems until the end, when she said Mr. Slater began methodically opening the overhead bins and then slamming them shut. “With the flight attendant, something happened way before he got on that airplane. The ones who don’t seem able to put up with it are people who are wrapped up in the ego of their job. It’s like an instructor who is fine for the first three periods telling students to sit down, but by the sixth period when he’s said it 30 times, he explodes.” “I don’t think that resiliency lasts,” Shea says, “if you’re under attack day in and day out.” Learning how to handle incendiary situations may be fine, but that’s not a panacea, she adds: “There’s a lot of bad behavior out there today, and I don’t think you can train someone to be a robot.” For people in customer service jobs (ask any waiter or employee charged with answering office phones), Slater’s actions should be put in context — and somewhat excused or explained — by the current cultural climate. Civility has been replaced with rudeness; employees have been asked to do more with less money, time and resources; and too many people have a me-first attitude.

How do you feel about it?
We try to look at ourselves as young, professional musicians that are looking to put a mark on the industry. That’s what we’re looking for the most right now – the people who aren’t 25 years old in the music business and have a good grasp on things that can talk for us so all we have to do the initial recording, then you have to listen to it all. We all had the same classes we were all learning classical guitar together. Q. When can fans expect to see the release of your second album. It’s a long process and we’re all kind of perfectionists.
So now we just have to be patient; the number one name of the game is patience – work hard and have patience and it will pay off. Reggae’s just really fun, it has a really fun vibe and it’s good to get everyone partying, We just wanted to be the fuel for the party and we do it in our own way. Ryan: We’re a band that’s on tour, so we want food – every single one of the ribs and elephant ears and freshly squeezed lemonades we can get. And that’s something that Ribfest is going to hopefully help us out with. Ryan: When we know, you will. The band is our full-time job and it’s how we pay the rent,” Ryan said. “Literally. It’s a good album for the first section of hearing JoBu and now we’re working on our second album, which is really going to take us to that next level and help us get that management and representation that we need.
How did you come up with it. If not, there’s always the ribs. If we could do half of that and do the music and really work on writing new songs and getting great recordings out, that’s definitely going to take us to the next level. Neel: If I could count the number of times people have told me we were the best band they’ve seen at their venue or on their stage – we’d be famous if I could just quote them. We’re going there to work, so we get a different feel of it all – we’re kind of like locals. And that comes out with the covers that we play – we play a lot of covers that our fans and audience members say they don’t see a lot of people. Q.
How did the band come together. How do people react when they first hear the band perform. We were into a lot of the same tunes so we just started playing and then we got Evan and it took off.
We’re all pretty much brothers, or as close to brothers as you can be without blood.” Back in high school, Ryan and Hines promised each other they’d be rock stars someday. We all live together. It’s a super weird feeling because we go down there and we’re not tourists, were not on vacation. Matt and I have been going to Ribfest our whole lives. We just can’t wait to rock really hard for everybody.
And everything is our own. We’re four white guys shleppin’ gear and coming into a venue playing reggae-rock music. Ryan: Most people are surprised, they say we don’t look like we can do what we do, so that throws people off a lot – surprising people is kind of our MO. Q. Ryan: We did our first album that the majority of our fans and audience members say they don’t see a lot of people. Q. How did the band come together. How do people react when they first hear the band perform.
We were into a lot of people. Q. How did the band come together. How do people react when they first hear the band perform. We were into a lot of other bands playing.

We should just get over it and have universal health for everyone. Why is this such a an issue among musicians. When that happens, you’re no longer thinking about being a musician, you are a musician. Does this say something larger about the status of musicians in our culture. He was very supportive of my brothers.
I felt more confident about the size of the band because we weren’t using strings or horns. What are you listening to currently. Just immerse yourself in music. There’s also 12 kids.
I think for me, he wanted other things. One of the kids was showing another kid a new dance or how to play a rhythm on a drum. And yet I think that music and the power of music is so important in our lives. Then it becomes a language that you speak. Why should we help this guy because he stayed up too late and drank too much and whatever. There was always music in the house. To be a musician in America is to be a person who really doesn’t get any respect for what he does.
When I was brought down with my illness, whenever I would go to someone for help, there were a lot of people who would refer to this illness as a lifestyle illness, in the same way they did with AIDs. Was your father encouraging of your decision to become a musician. One song on the record, “Down in the Bowery,” was written for your son, who’s beginning a career in music. I think it made it tougher-sounding, more streamlined, more focused. Poor people, old people, people with AIDS, people with cancer -– there’s so many people who cannot find good health care. Just to be invested in it in a real way, to be honest about it, to be soulful about it. I would first have to say it’s not just musicians. It does help when you find the audience is responding immediately to a song.
Your brothers, Coke and Pete, played with Santana; your niece is ’80s pop star Sheila E., and another brother, Javier, formed the seminal punk band the Zeros. I was somewhat of a lost soul there for a while. Did you leave a song off if it didn’t get a good audience reaction. Oh, a lot of people who would refer to this illness as a lifestyle illness, in the same way they did with AIDs. Was your father encouraging of your decision to become a musician. For us, we needed to get that response from the audience in order to give us more confidence in the material. Music was always there. It wasn’t a childhood thing for me. How did music become the Escovedo family business. On the cover of his latest release, “Street Songs of Love,” Escovedo looks lean and strong, like a man who has fought to achieve his current position and has no intention of relinquishing it.

The allegedly talking music firms issued denials, vague non-committal confirmations or a nice neat “no comment”. So I won’t be partaking in all the Glasto nonsense, 40th birthday or not. Boy, those Google folks just can’t catch a break. First, a download option will be added to enhanced music searches which, in the US, already provide streaming previews when you search for artists or songs. The club’s administrators and management both confirmed this to be so yesterday, so it is business as usual at the popular venue. Google called the 30-page ruling ‘thoughtful, thorough and well-considered’. Now that’s been granted, the French three-strikes system for combating piracy is almost ready to go, pending a little bit of government paperwork. But Google general counsel Kent Walker, in a blog posting, said the decision “is an important victory not just for us, but also for the billions of people around the world who use the Web to communicate and share experiences.” Groups that want to promote widespread Internet use also applauded the ruling, saying that most websites don’t have the resources to determine whether user-supplied videos violate the law. “As the law now stands, prompt compliance with take-down notices shields an online service provider from liability,” says Sherwin Siy, deputy legal director of Public Knowledge, an activist group that encourages citizen access to media.
Although Google has no ties to any of the file-sharing websites, BPI is holding the company responsible because its search engine directs users to such sites. Team CMU will have their eyes on the proceedings though, and we’ll be keeping a good watch on the other big festival this weekend too, London’s Hard Rock Calling. Legal scholars predicted the outcome of this landmark suit would determine who profited the most from content: the people who pay for its creation, or the people who pay for its creation, or the people who help disseminate it over the Web. The judge ruled that damages were not available for content produced outside America. Every minute of the day, people post 24 hours’ worth of videos to YouTube, the ruling noted.
It can’t all fall on the shoulders of third-party host services.” Tom Sydnor, a senior fellow who heads up studies digital property issues at the Progress & Freedom Foundation, said he expects Stanton’s decision to be reversed. The judge agreed. “If a service provider knows of specific instances of infringement, the provider must promptly remove the infringing material,” Stanton wrote. “If not, the burden is on the owner to identify the infringement. Google is a hot topic on the interwebs these days. We reported last week that the troubled London club had reportedly come out of administration, with the clubbing company’s assets having been sold to a new business entity called Fabric Life, which was incorporated in May. General knowledge that infringement is ‘ubiquitous’ does not impose a duty on the service provider to monitor or search its service for infringements.” This seems to indicate that YouTube and Google may not be required to employ filtering technologies. “What this court seems to be saying is that it is not a game of perfect,” Howell said.

That’s right, search for a TV show or movie title now surfaces extra data. After all, this vertical is devoted to entertainment. Story telling has been community experience from the start of time. There’s nothing better than watching a basketball game and talking to people about it … but I think we should accept that the audience has a voice with their dollars but let’s not say they have a right to how it will end. Lady Gaga, who is very good, has 220 billion hits on one video and total income from streaming last year was $10,000.
Biz says notice many TV shows before about to air start to trend. Much more. Thinks it’s a very good thing. A query for “r.e.m. radio free europe lyrics,” for instance, will connect you to a page with the song’s inscrutable verbiage (“Keep me out of country in the word”) and an option to listen to the 1983 recording. Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Friends Ready for Nashville Rising Concert
When Tim McGraw and Faith Hill began planning a concert to raise money for flood relief efforts in Nashville and Middle Tennessee, they asked their friends to help. Those friends are gathering Tuesday night (June 22) for one of the biggest country music shows to ever hit Nashville.
The concert, Nashville Rising: A Benefit for Flood Recovery, will feature Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Montgomery Gentry, Amy Grant, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes, Julie Roberts, Blake Shelton, Michael W. Smith, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and ZZ Top.
The sold-out concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena is projected to raise between $2 million and $3 million for the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee in its efforts to rebuild lives disrupted by the disaster.
During a Monday afternoon (June 21) interview session with syndicated radio reporters, McGraw and Hill said the devastation that hit Middle Tennessee also served as a reminder of the spirit of the community.
“It’s so tragic what happened to this city, but it couldn’t have happened at a better place — if it was going to have to happen — because the community in this town just pulls together in a way like I’ve never seen anyplace,” Hill said.
“It’s a very hardworking town,” McGraw noted. “Everybody works hard here. It’s grown a lot since I’ve been here, but it’s still a small town, really, at its core. When you’re in a small town, if you don’t know somebody, you feel like you do. The neighborhoods are so tight. Instantly, with no thought about it, everybody was helping each other. I think the reason there wasn’t a lot of press about it is that there wasn’t looting, people weren’t breaking into people’s houses. People were taking care of each other.”
McGraw said the fundraising concert was the one thing they knew they could do to help.
“It’s what we do,” he said. “We’re not brain surgeons. We’re not the smartest people in the world.”
“Speak for yourself,” Hill interjected with a laugh.
“Well, you’re pretty smart,” McGraw replied. “You married me. Yeah, right. … But what we can do is we can organize something like this. We’ve got great people who work for us who do a great job of organizing things. We’ve got friends who, if we call them up, will show up to do this. Plus, they live here, and they want to help their community, too.”
Regardless of anyone’s income or extent of their loss, fans and country artists have a shared experience as a result of the flood that hit the area in early May. Hill said the concert will reflect that.
“I think it’s going to unify this town even more,” she said. “I feel like there’s going to be a sense that we’ve all experienced something together. I know there’s a lot of people coming from out of town, but there’s also a lot of people from Nashville and the surrounding area that will be at the show. … Some of the people performing on the stage lost everything, equipment-wise. And the people in the audience, there’s going to be a lot out there who have lost a lot of things.
“So I think it’s one of those rare moments that we’ve experienced the same thing and can relate to something that has brought us all together. …. There’s a lot of hardships out there still, and there will be for months, if not years, to come for a lot of people. But we’re going to try to give them a great show. All of us love this town so much. I think you’ll see that great sense of pride and community.”
Although McGraw says they began initial plans for the concert while the flood water was still rising, they wanted to schedule the concert when it would be most beneficial to the community.
“We knew there were other things fundraisers going on, and we didn’t want to get in anybody’s way, of course,” he said. “It’s better to spread them all out so everybody can raise the most money. But we felt there would be a point where it sort of seemed like people might have lost a little interest. We wanted to be right at the edge of that point where we could remind everyone that there’s still people who need help out there.
“Also, it gives you a good idea of who’s falling through the cracks when you wait a little bit longer to raise money. You sort of see how it’s unfolding. There’s some FEMA help and insurance companies — who knows what’s going to happen with that — but there are people who are not going to fill their papers out right or they’re not going to get stuff turned in on time. There are going to be people who never filled out papers at all. They’re going to fall through the cracks. It’s probably a good thing that it’s a little farther away from the actual event so you can see what’s going on.”
All of the performers at the concert are expected to perform two songs each with backing from McGraw’s band, the Dancehall Doctors.
“They’re learning all these songs,” he said. “They’ve been rehearsing over the last two or three weeks at soundchecks while we’ve been on the road. When we’ve been off the road for a day or two, they went straight into rehearsal halls and learned songs. They’ve been working hard, and I’m proud of them.”
McGraw says his band members see the concert as their way to contribute to the cause, although he also suggests they could have an additional motive.
“They’re having fun,” he said. “They’re tired of me. They get to work with somebody else for a change.”

People had so much fun; drinking, talking, playing pool or even talking to friends, while listening to their beloved music.
People love the feeling they can get when they drop a nickel in and this music box starts to give you what you have just ordered. A special song that you always enjoy hearing can often be discovered; or one that you shared with a loved one and always reminds you of a good moment. It is like owning the world. You certainly should know that at the time jukeboxes were most popular, nobody had a computer, and this luxury was only left in the dreams that a jukebox could bring.
People back then used to own phonographs to play music at their homes, which was just a way to own music, something one was never able to imagine in earlier days and years.
Many people believe that jukeboxes are obsolete. Luckily this is not the case. You may have to look a little harder to find them, but they are out there. Many people think of jukeboxes as treasures. The often bring up feelings of nostalgia and a love of the past.
Buying a jukebox for your home is like owning something that has been gone forever. It is like owning the days our fathers and grandfathers lived long ago. Feeling what they felt, and getting amused by what was in their days is a phenomenon.

Any time you bring in one of the hottest rappers in the game like Drake to New York City then there’s bound to be a big turnout. When you put it somewhere as easily accessible as South Street Seaport and make it free your bound to get a near riot on your hand.
Guess what? That’s what happened. Overcrowding and a cancelled Drake show lead to a near riot. Drake and Hanson weret to perform a free concert with Hanson at South Street Seaport on Tuesday, June 15th for Paper magazine. Paper is a NYC website for the arts, fashion and nightlife. The venue expected 10,000 people. More like 25,000 people descended on the Seaport. It didn’t take long from the overcrowding for people to begin to get anxious and downright rowdy.
Reports of bottles being broken over people’s head, fights, and pushing were rampant. I ran into tourists on tour buses and they complained of an out of control concert scene going violently awry quickly. It suprised none of them of the reports of mayhem the following morning they saw people becoming pretty pertubed at the events.
Only 2 actual people were arrested and 7 injured. I’m pretty sure it was more people than that acting up though. The two they caught were the ones visibly throwing chairs and bottles. Its harder to catch people just shoving folks for the heck of it.
Only the DJ, Ninjasonik actually took the stage. After that the overcrowding became unbearable and cops shut it down. The police had 5 helicopters over the area by the time the crowd was being dispersed.
Paper Magazine feels that word got out on the street, probably via radio and moved up the number of people estimated to show. Its funny that a blog is a little upset that the radio got word out on their event. Actually I don’t think they are. Paper magazine just got a lot of free advertising for people to visit their blog.
Here’s a word of fact of going to shows. Stick with the Martin Luther King concert series in Wingate Park, Brooklyn and SummerStage in Central Park. Some of these people don’t have crowd control down and it can get dangerous. This is not Drake’s fault, or Hip Hop’s or his fans. Get 25,000 people where only 10,000 should be and you’ll get the same problem, regardless of musical tastes.

A little rain wanted for Bonnaroo
MANCHESTER Overheated concert-goers might be wishing for rain just to cool things off as the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival ends today.
Air-conditioned medical tents were treating about 25 percent more people than in past years, estimated Carl Monzo, director for Bonnaroos Emergency Medical Services.
Its a luxury out here. Its a nice place to rest, get water and cool off, he said, noting that the average person stays only about 15 minutes. They want to get back out and see the bands on their agenda for the day. They have their days here all planned out.
As of noon Saturday, 26 people were transported to area hospitals for heat-related emergencies or for other injuries, such as sprained ankles, that could not be treated on site.
Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves, who has worked each of the previous eight festivals, said it more uncomfortable than past years.
All I really know is theyve had several incidents of people collapsing from the heat, he said. Weve had a heat index over 100 (degrees) two days in a row and not a lot of showers to cool things down.
There is a 30 percent chance of rain today in Manchester, and though no record highs are expected, the heat index is about 104 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Aside from the weather, Graves said the number of arrests this year are pretty typical. More than 50 people had been arrested for disorderly and drug-related charges. Graves said Coffee County General Sessions court scheduled a day, Sept. 24, separate from the regular docket, just to deal with Bonnaroo arrests.
Its a nightmare, Graves said. Our court docket is probably gonna have more than 200 people on it.
